Re: CTC questions
We have a couple of history encyclopedias on the shelf here, but they hardly ever had what my son was looking for when he did CTC last year. He did use Wikipedia a lot, but this particular son has no problem skimming quickly for info. Some of my other kids do struggle with this and need more help. L...

Re: need help replacing Men of Iron
Amy, I've never seen that Book Wizard search tool before, I'll give that a try! Lynn, good idea... he has already read Pyle's version of Robin Hood, but I'll check on other titles by him. I like the idea of using one of the extension books from another guide, too. He read all the extension books fro...

need help replacing Men of Iron
I need to replace Men of Iron in the World Geography literature course because my son has already read it. It is scheduled after the BJU unit on theme. Any ideas what might be a good fit? (I'd rather not use Papa's Wife for him...)
Thanks in advance!

Re: Loving HOD
Jennymommy, I agree! I love HOD for so many reasons but a big one is the fact that I feel like I can relax. So many times if I think of something I want the kids to know or think about or practice, I find that it is already in the guides. Of course there are the obvious things this doesn't apply to....

Re: teaching responsible and safe online research to older k
Lynn, we do have Adblock Plus installed and it helps so much! It is great (almost perfect, really) at filtering/blocking the ads. But I'm needing help figuring out how to block the sidebar links to other news stories that are very distracting and un-helpful to my house full of teen boys, because Adb...

Re: teaching responsible and safe online research to older k
Those are good ideas, and I'll check into both of them. Thank you! We have some experience with Covenant Eyes and found it to be a little confusing because it seems to report some activity but not all.... seemed to me it was too easy to circumvent?? I'll have to look at it again though. I like that ...

So true, and a good reminder for me as well!Nealewill wrote:I always find when I am struggling that I just feel so much better if I focus on praising God instead. It seems like it changes my attitude so quickly and bring lots of peace.

Re: Prayer Request (OT)
I agree with Pam, you are always so encouraging to all of us! I'm sorry to hear you are struggling through so much. Any one of those things would be a lot, let alone all of them together. I just wanted to let you know that I'm praying for you right now that God will provide the finances you need, th...

teaching responsible and safe online research to older kids
I'm wondering how you teach your older students how to research responsibly online. We've done the research questions from the guides (CTC, Preparing, RTR) with Wikipedia and mostly found what we needed. I am always in the room to provide guidance and accountability for my kids. It works well for th...

Re: Switching from MFW mid year - Help!!
I don't have anything practical to add, just wanted to pop in and say that I'm a MFW convert too. I have always been drawn to Charlotte Mason's ideals of education, and apparently I mistakenly thought that MFW would provide that. I agree with this completely! I was in the same place. MFW is a wonder...

Re: I just realized
Yes, that totally makes sense! And actually, that is the exact thing I am dealing with here. My son is dyslexic/APD too, so I totally get what you are saying about difficulty expressing emotion in acceptable ways. I just think that for this particular child it would be good to add another year of ma...

Re: I just realized
Likewise, with my son, if he ends up finishing the last level at 19 instead of 18, then that is fine too. For us, because we are in the recommended age range and on target to maintain that for now, I plan that my kids will just graduate from high school once they finish the last level. This is an i...

Re: Awards for 2015
I agree, I think HOD should be first in every category! I am using multiple guides and every level is such a blessing to our family. My kids and my husband and I all feel that it has been a huge answer to prayer for us. I'm constantly amazed at how well it fits each of my kids even though they are a...
