Is my daughter really missing out with no Beyond?
I probably shouldn't read everything on here! :) I keep hearing about how wonderful Beyond is and how each guide really prepares them for the next one. I started a couple of weeks ago with HOD and am combining my almost 9 yo daughter (will be 9 on 4/1) with an older daughter in Bigger. The only thin...

We are in Austin. It's the place to be in Texas. Tell him to try to get a job here.

Great day with Little Hearts and 6 yo boy
I started with HOD for the 1st time about 2 weeks ago. I've been reading a ton of the old posts on this board and trying to keep up with the new posts. I keep reading about how people love it and then they share about great times and discussions with their little people because of the assignments. W...

Charlotte Mason Companion-love HOD
I am reading this book again. I read it about 10 years ago. I am even more excited to have found HOD. This book really helps you to see how Carrie is helping us to put it all together. It will also help to reassure anyone who is wondering if "it's enough".

Re: Would this work?
I would think that the Bigger would be way too much for your little one. I agree with lharris, the Little Hearts or Beyond would be great for them. I just started Bigger with two of mine, and the youngest is 8.5, first time doing CM stuff. It's a lot for her and she's a fantastic reader and speller....

Re: singapore placement for older child/remedial
I'm still thinking about this. I just had her get out her Math 4 TT on the computer and she only has 10 more lessons to go. All of her scores are 95 or 100. Well....we worked on some stuff together the other day, and she doesn't even get place value. She didn't know that the 8 in 85 meant 8 tens. An...

Re: RTR's Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons
I've been wondering what to think about this writing program, and whether or not I would pick something else when my daughter does this next year. I have never been attracted to (to put it mildly) the IEW writing curriculum. I was surprised to see that HOD used it. I didn't like all of the ways they...

Re: old edition of History Stories for Children
That's what it is, A Child's Story of America. That's the one that I have that's really old. Any page numbers for that one?

Re: Explode the Code or R&S for phonics practice?
I use R&S phonics and I do like it. I haven't used Explode the Code before so I can't compare. My daughter does most of it on her own, but some does require the teacher. It's easy for the teacher though, they tell you everything and they are so inexpensive to get.

Re: old edition of History Stories for Children
Thanks. That is the one I have, but the numbers didn't match up in the book I was thinking about. I'll have to ask my daughter in the morning what book it was. I think it was in the Bigger extensions and I'm pretty sure it was a CLP book. Hmmm....

old edition of History Stories for Children
I have an old edition so the page numbers don't match up. Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere that someone made up showing the page numbers? I was so happy to already have a book and not have to buy it again, bummer. I wonder if I should just get a new one. I already had "A Child's History...

Re: dictation in Bigger vs Beyond
Good choice!! I was watching this and hoping you would pick Beyond. :) I think we are always in such a hurry for our littles to grow up, it's hard to remember that they are so young, especially when she is your oldest. Now that my oldest is 23 (and my baby is now 3) I can tell you, your children are...

Thanks Julie, these posts help me see where we are going and what to look for in my children's writings/narrations.

Re: Starting HOD tomorrow!
Thanks everyone. How sweet that you all would pray for me. I really appreciate it so much. God brought me to HOD and I can't figure out why I was online a few weeks ago looking and how I even got to HOD! I think no matter what I typed in the computer search, God brought up HOD. :) Good ideas MrsMand...

Re: Starting HOD tomorrow!
Thanks everyone. Well, it went pretty well, considering we are all just recovering from the flu last week and coming back from vacation in Florida. I learned that my kids are definitely in the correct guide. Because of the advice here I put my 14 yo Liberian daughter in Bigger w/extensions with my a...
