Re: Beyond vs. Bigger

I think that Bigger will be a better fit according to their skills. Have an awesome year!

Re: New Member: Question About Use of Extensions

I have seen a post from Carrie where the extensions can be used in place of the read alouds in the older guides. I just can't remember which guide that starts with.

Re: Large family moms - combining question

Yes! I definitely take one year at a time. I will either combine the girls in Bigger or I might use another curriculum with them for a year to keep everyone on the topic of geography. The following year the three girls will do Preparing. My older boys will be doing world history. Yeah! My youngers u...

Re: Large family moms - combining question

We have 8 children whom we have always homeschooled. 2 are out of the house with college and marriage, so I think I qualify as a large family who has homeschooled for a long time. Multiple guides do not work well for us. I combine as many in a guide as I can and shoot for the middle instead of the y...

Re: Trying to decide on curriculum

Preparing was my favorite year! Beyond is not a difficult guide to add to another one. if it does prove to be too much, just concentrate on math and reading with the 6 year old. There is plenty of time!

Re: DD wants more diagramming practice, not retaining

Rod and Staff has worksheets that go with the books. You could do the book 3 one over the summer to review. I continually drill What Kind?, Which One?, How Many?, Whose? for adjectives and How?, When?, Where?, To What Extent? for adverbs (plus many end in ly). Book 4 will review these concepts as we...

Re: Building Thinking Skills

I like and have used them both. Like the other posters, if I were to choose one, I would definitely pick Mind Benders. I think they make great summer school!

Re: Benefits in using younger guide for high school

My daughter used REV2REV, MTMM, World History, and will use World Geography next year for high school. She is just fine and very capable of college work! The benefits it posed for us were keeping children combined as much as possible and keeping a more peaceable spirit in the home (immeasurable!). I...

Re: Sneak Peek #4: New American History Guide

I used the Noble Experiment with my daughter. Not only is it the only government curriculum I have seen that doesn't make me want to poke my eye out, but we actually liked it! We have also liked all the Uncle Eric books.

We are only on week 20, but I suggest Cyrus the Persian, Spring Tide, The Lantern Bearer's, and The King's Shadow. Very memorable!

Re: High School Geography

I am combining my 8th grader, 9th grader, and 12th grader in the geography program next year. The 12th grader will have her own English, math, and science. I am a HUGE fan of combining as I just do not enjoy school otherwise. As I have several children, I have always combined sets. Anytime I tried t...

Re: New Catalog Arrived!

I know I am on the mailing list as we are receiving the world history guide in installments this year. However, I did not get a catalog. Is there a chance that it is just taking a while to get to Illinois, or should I request one?

Re: HOD guides and CLEP question

My older boys did not use HOD, but they did use the BJU literature and were able to CLEP literature. Really, any good materials will prepare you for the CLEP. Just get a good prep book after studying the subject you wish to CLEP. We used one that had three prep tests. If your child does well on the ...
