Foerster's Algebra

I just spent an hour looking for online samples of Foerster's Algebra 1, as I'm considering ordering the text for my son, but had no success. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how review is built into the Foerster's text. Do the daily assignments contain a review section which covers material ...

I'm not Mumkins, but I just had to share ...

Wow, Julie, you are amazing!!!

My son is only in 7th, but I'm going to cut and paste your post in my "great HOD posts" file for future reference, so I can read it again when he nears high school. Thank you for sharing your heart! :D

Re: 11 yo can only spell a few words

If he is struggling that much with dictation and he hadn't finished the spelling lists, I would drop the dictation and go back to the spelling lists. I'm not sure what Carrie recommends, but I would not move on in the spelling lists until he can get all of the words correctly for a given list. I do ...

Re: Finish Both Spelling Lists Before Dictation?

You might find this post helpful, especially Carrie's response encouraging the OP to complete the spelling lists before starting dictation:

Re: "I'm Bored"

My son just turned 13. We have the opposite problem ... he never feels there are enough hours in the day to do the things he wants to do. :) His interests are too many to list, but just to give you some suggestions, he enjoys music-related activities, science kits, erector or other construction sets...

Re: White Boards for Lefties?

I thought I'd add that it might also help to have your daughter hold the board up slightly (at a 30-45 degree angle), leaning it against the side of the table while resting the base on her abdomen. I noticed my son doing that yesterday and thought it might help in your situation. :)

Re: White Boards for Lefties?

I've taught my righties to use the white board without having their hand touch it. It took some getting used to, as well as several days of reminders, but it was worth the effort, as it is very helpful for keeping their hands clean. Often, I'll have them filling in blanks on the whiteboard and if I...

Re: Today was ROUGH!!!!!

I love your honesty and I appreciate you sharing!!! I chuckled when I read your post, as I think we can all relate to those "not so wonderful" days. For us, I find there's always a learning curve to getting back to our routine. Once we're on it, things run much more smoothly, but there's definitely ...

Re: Alternatives to "Screen Time"

No need to be embarrassed! We've all had areas in which we've struggled and we all have room to grow. :) One of the ways we manage screen time is we simply don't have a lot available to our children in our house. We have consciously chosen not to have any kind of gaming systems, iPads, iPhones, cabl...

Re: More challenging spelling list for BLHFHG

The words on the spelling lists are the same in Beyond and Bigger. You would need the Bigger guide if you want to move into dictation :) I don't have my manual near me right now but I think Beyond only has one spelling list and Bigger actually has two. But again, I am not near my manual and I could...

I tell my dc they can be a witness every single day! A witness to their little brother by getting up and doing their Bible Quiet Time each morning, a witness to the elderly lady they get the door for, a witness to the waitress by being thankful for her service at a restaurant, a witness to the neig...
