Re: Struggling Learner Getting Further and Further Behind
Your signature says that your 12yo is doing Bigger with Extensions. I dont know if that was what you started then bumped him up or if that was more than a year ago, but I would suggest going down to Preparing, if he hasn't done that guide yet. That's what we did with our oldest when we came to HOD a...

Re: Website search feature
Thank you, Carrie. I knew you are still in the middle of things, and appreciate your prompt response. I also knew I needed to let you know my thoughts while the details were still fresh in my mind. Blessings as you continue through the sale, and into the coming weeks as you continue to roll out vari...

Re: Notebooking Page Issues?
Each ofnmy children choose what works for them; most choosing pens, includingnFrixion, Papermaking Erasable, and any pen they can find (the last being the child who cared the least what his pages looked like, and who had symptoms of Dysgraphia). That said, my children type all written narrations, so...

Website search feature
I just wanted to point out that the search feature still doesn't work very. . . helpfully. When I do a search for a word in the title of an HOD resource, that resource doesn't always come up. (eg. Les Miserable - only the book came up, not the two times the CD set is scheduled.) Secondly, when I cli...

Re: What do I do if we missed a year?
Why Rev2Rev? If you've checked the placement chart with fresh eyes, and that is where she places, then just keep doing one guide per year and skip the last one. You can fiddle with electives, if you want. For example, I brought personal finance from the last guide down for my kids to do in grade 11 ...

Re: Placement? What to do if misplaced in Bigger?
As far as Rod and Staff, we are using level 2. She had not done any formal grammar in school beyond capital letters, punctation, etc, so I thought it was best to start there and she has done very well with it. Should we just keep going with level 2, or move along at a faster pace to get to level 3 ...

Re: Several ?'s about Grammar and Placement
As for my daughter, I think you are right in the fact that if I work on her writing skills over the next few months, she would most likely be ready for Rev2Rev if not MtMM. However, alot of the History books listed in MtMM she's read already. Not sure what I would do there! I guess maybe if I get h...

Re: Several ?'s about Grammar and Placement
I have used RTR for 9th. It's not a situation I would suggest unless absolutely necessary, so I would agree with Stephanie's suggestion to work on some writing skills over the next few months to hopefully place at least in RTR. My son tried CTC at 12 but he could not handle the overall workload and ...

Re: Several ?'s about Grammar and Placement
To speak to your 8/9yo first, do you consider her going into 3rd or 4th? If 4th, AND she's ready to start reading and working independently for 2 subjects (science and Independent History Study) and to start learning to write written narrations (3-5 sentences once per unit), then you are probably ri...

Re: GRAD!
Thank you, ladies! What are her future plans? Heather, we're not sure of future plans. She is currently looking for a job that will last her at least through the summer. Come fall she is accepted to her university of choice, but since she is only planning on a general studies year (doesn't have a la...

Re: New to HOD
I love the look of this, but wondering how to start and if it’s worth it if I have my own programs for other things. What would be the benefit to this vs just a reading list that I assign. Benefits to HOD vs just a reading list: * daily assignments already made for you, with prompts for questions, ...

Re: 2nd Purchase of Teacher's Guide - Discount?
I have never heard of such a discount. The only time a guide is discounted, is when HOD makes updates and someone re-purchases the guide to get the updated version. HOD makes a refund for a portion of the cost once the old guide is returned to them. When I needed a second guide (for children using t...

GRAD!
My 17yo DD just finished her grade 12 (over a month earlier than I had expected of her), with WH! :!: :D She has Irlen Syndrome (at that time undiagnosed) so started HOD in 6th with Bigger, and we subbed out the LA for Brain Training. She advanced a few grades of reading in the next couple years, so...

Re: A few questions about CTC?
First off, the CTC NBing pages have not changed, and work with all printings of the CTC guide. :D Unless you want a copy of your own, borrowing is a good way to save money. You will want to make sure that the books match up for page numbers (which it will if you're borrowing them all from your frien...

Re: CTC after PHFHG?
With my second, I read all of the main history books (he isn't a strong reader, so I recorded the audio for CtC to help him).) I agree with helping them as much as needed with the first Reading About History book. Unfortunately, one of the hardest Living books for History comes at the beginning of ...
