Re: Dithor/storytime combining
That's a lot to take on! We started with 4 and got up to 7 in school for a few years. It got to the point where my kids in K-3rd did just 3Rs and Storytime, then started the guides mid-Bigger (the parts they could do independently) or in Preparing, finally as-written. Now 3 have graduated and my las...

Re: Dithor/storytime combining
My kids have liked, if not loved, most of the books. We are in God King now and they love this one. I've had 5 boys, and now one girl do CTC and all of them have enjoyed the Storytime books. And, yes, I love using the Bible as history, as HOD does. Then with all the living books added. CTC is one of...

Re: Dithor/storytime combining
Do you do the hands on projects in the living room as well? Some. Others they move to the office (craft supplies) or kitchen (cooking or painting). What’s in the morning routine? Get dressed, make bed, eat breakfast & clean up, do whatever chores you are assigned, start independent work (for age 9/...

Re: Dithor/storytime combining
I understand the loud, but we do everything in the living room! My older kids (usually around 12+) have a desk in their rooms or our office to go do independent work, but everything with me is on the couch (except when my 2 in CTC have written narration - we move to the office so they can type). I r...

Re: Dithor/storytime combining
I only combine for Storytime for my 2 who are together in CTC. They are my only ones this year, but previously I have done up to 4 Storytimes per day. (I'm down to 5 students from 7 - those 2 in CTC, one is only phonics, 1 is reading Storytime himself in MTMM, and one not using HOD so he can combine...

Re: Sneak Peak: Copy the Classics for Beyond Little Hearts
This sounds like a fabulous addition to Beyond! It must be so fun to go back and add details to the guides you wrote so long ago! Early elementary prep is fun. And good timing for me: after my last 3 not really using Beyond/Bigger because I was so busy with my older kids (7 kids in school, the older...

Re: Dithor 2 book order
We go straight from How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons into the ERs, but with a program that has more levels it may be harder to tell when to switch. I have heard others who use AAR say that mid level 2 or at the end of level 2 is a good time to switch to the ERs. Others have gone t...

Re: Dithor 2 book order
Yes. But not in an easy format for sharing on the Message Board. You could email me through the Board and i could send it to you or, if you are on FB, there is a PDF copy available in the Heart of Dakota Fan Page. (One of all books HOD sold as of 2020; another of just thr ER and DITHOR books.) Bless...

Re: Dithor 2 book order
It depends how you use them. If you are using the workbooks, you can choose to do the genres in any order, but any time there are 2 books planned for one genre, you will want to order those together. However, if your child isn't ready for lit analysis and you want to use the books just for reading, ...

Re: Sticking with HOD long term
With 8 kids, I found it freeing (though I still fight a twinge of guilt at times, saying no to some great things) to recognize that our lives are full and I don't have to organize for and take time out of our day for a bunch of extras. We do do what we call a Reboot: 3-5 units in the middle of the y...

Re: Which guides to miss?
Next year I’ll do preparing (possibly with all, or let the 11 yr old (will be 12) restart creation to Christ since we will be spending some time in ancients with preparing, and he’s already quite a ways into creation to Christ). I would not have your son restart CTC, but pick up where you left off ...

Re: Taking a break
Not really. However, my last 4 kids to start HOD (with 3 older ones in higher guides) have done just 3Rs and Storytime through K-3rd, starting the full guides in Preparing, when ready (usually for 4th). Also, each child usually has what we call a Reboot, some time around the middle of each guide. In...

Re: What guides are you using?
Our 15yo finished MTMM and is doing a year of Canadian studies so that I can combine him with younger brother next year for some parts of WG (LA, IPC Science, Logic). They've combined for some subjects before (and are still for LA this year), but the younger one wasn't ready for high school last yea...

Re: CTC - Written Narrations
I think if she had it her way, I would still read the text to her even though she is full capable of reading it on her own. But I think I have to keep in mind that she is on the younger side. One more idea: I DO read that first history book in CTC aloud to my kids! It is the most challenging book t...
