Re: New decisions...Bigger for a 9yo (soon to be 10)?

I think he would be fine in Bigger. I have a 9 year old who will be 10 in August that will start Bigger with the Extensions in the fall. However, I would not put him in Bigger and the youngers in Beyond. Instead, I would probably put the 8 year old in Bigger with the 10 year old (only no extensions ...

Re: Hello! Does this sound like a good placement for my kiddos?

I was actually going to suggest Little Hearts for your 6 y/o and Bigger for your 9 year old. My best suggestion though is to look at the placement chart on the site and really examine where each child best fits. You know them better than anyone and you are the best judge for this. My only caution wo...

Re: Would the program work without the Bible?

We use a different Bible program (CLE) as well, but looking over the Bible for the two HOD programs I am using, I plan to still do it in addition to what we do separately. :) It is quick and easy and you just can't get "too much" Bible IMO.

OFF TOPIC s/o Let's see your school room!!

Since I shared mine, won't you all please share too?? :) I would love to see what others do. I get lots of my ideas from look at the school rooms of others (and drooling over real bookcases in those rooms!).

Re: Pictures of my School Room

LOL That is Sissy Kitty. I also have a bluepoint siamese named (this is really original...are you ready?) Blue Kitty. They are both rescues from the humane society. I got them 10 years ago this month. They are now 12 years old. Where does the time go? :( http://treehouseacademy.homeschooljournal.net...

Re: Pictures of my School Room

I kind of took the school room over when we started homeschooling. The room used to be the guest room/office. Now, we have nowhere for guests to sleep! Okay, well, there is my husband's "man room," (which is more the size of a small apartment since it is over the two car garage and is the same size!...

Re: Pictures of my School Room

Thanks ladies. LOL I told dh that the floors were a real hit! haha. At the time when we built the house, he was an engineering manager for a wood flooring company (see where I am going with this...LOL). We have Oak plank in the school room/living room/dining room, Natural Cherry in the bedrooms and ...

Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

Interesting to know that the books lay flat! I ring bind them at the local copy store and that works great. I tried putting them in plastic sleeves in a 3 ring binder, but it was bulky and I had to use 2 3 ring binders and did not want to separate the book. So off I went and had Beyond ring bound a...

Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

Just for future reference, I believe all the books have a lay flat binding. Just give them a push, the binding won't break. My LHFHG and BLHFHG have always laid flat this way. Then I get the tabs from 3M and add then to the book (thanks Mary for that idea!). Mine would not lay flat the way I wanted...

Pictures of my School Room

I had a request via e-mail to post pics of my school room. I assume it came from my description of it in the post about workboxes. :) Anyway, it is not the greatest, but we sure enjoy it. Hope it is okay to post this here. Walking in: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/hiddareboog/IMG_7157_1.jpg...

Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

Thanks ladies! It takes a bit of work, and you have to be really careful when pulling out the pages, but it is sooo worth it, IMO. Now, DITHOR lays flat in its original book binding, so I didn't unbind it. Just Bigger and Beyond. :) You can totally do it! Oh...and be sure you get the 2" or...

Re: Still trying to decide what to do.............

I never thought I would homeschool my kids. I thought people who homeschooled were "strange" and I believed all of the stupid stereotypes that go around about homeschoolers. Then, my oldest son (who has ADHD and always had behavior issues in school) started to struggle more and more with the "system...

Re: Can I combine or do I need to separate?

My advice would be to combine your K'er and 1st grader in Little Hearts and do Bigger with your 4th grader. I have a 5th grader and a 1st grader and while my 1st grader is advanced, I decided to split them. While I think my younger could have done the History and Science in Bigger, I think it would ...

Re: Which phonics do you suggest for 1st?

I didn't follow my own advice here (and I probably should have), but I think Reading Made Easy would be your best bet. When I was asking about phonics and have a ds in the middle somewhere, RME was what was suggested to me. You can start in the middle with your dd in 1st, and at the beginning with y...

Re: Help me choose a program!

I think your plan sounds like a good one. Go with your gut as to where they "fit" - you definitely know your kids. I had a hard time choosing with my youngest, but in the end, I went with my gut and it was perfect. :)

Best of luck and welcome to HOD!
