Re: Schedule help for PH, BH, LHFHG, LH

I would just wait on doing LHTH until next year with those little ones when they reach preschool and K. You are going to be very busy running both Preparing and Bigger at the same time. I have never done those 2 guides together but have been told that they are the hardest to run together as they are...

Re: Guide Tips and Tricks

Great idea! I have marked mine up with pencil.....I am starting to regret that. Oh well, what is done is done. For the fall I made up a sheet for each week so that I can mark that instead....also I can add any grades I need to on that and can later enter in into my excel 'grade book'. My boys like h...

Re: multiple guides.... how to schedule?

I ran LHFHG and Bigger last year and was able to complete those 2 in about 3 hours....then added in RtR for an older one. We still were done by 1:00pm (and sometime by 12pm) most days. My goal was completing it all in the morning. This year I am doing Beyond with PAL (for LA for a non-reader), Prepa...

Re: Tips for Preparing and RevtoRev together

Faroutback - I have the same issue. My daughter is about 2/3 way through R2R and we hope to finish up in Dec/Jan and then switch over to Rev to Rev (she is 15). My older son is in Preparing this fall and my younger son is in Beyond. My daughter and older son both have learning disabilities and need ...

Re: Placement of a child who is LD

I do not want to discourage you, but I would not suggest doing Bigger with a 7 year old with learning issues (is he second or third grade? Most people use this for 3rd grade), but it could work. One thing to think about is if you continue with HOD he might not be ready for Preparing by next year (in...

Re: Question about using RTR.

My daughter is doing RTR and she struggles with writing due to her having expressive-receptive language disorder. I just have her write less than what is suggested. I have also taught her how to take note as remembering is her part of her problem. Then using the notes she has taken, she writes a sho...

Re: Soon to be starting high school and need encouragement

You can do it!! My oldest did not do HOD in high school, but I think it would have been easier if she would have. She graduated this past spring and is off to college this fall.

Re: Placement

Did you download the sample week of both of the guides? That might help. My son is reading at a 3/4th grade reading level and he is going into Preparing this year. He is 10.5 years old. Your son might do fine with either guide. Since he spent the last 3 years in a school in German, it might be bette...

Re: We're back

There is a big jump in skills from Bigger to Preparing. They do more narrations, there are lots more question they have to answer in science and History (orally). They learn how to do a written narration. How much do your kids remember from this last year? My daughter went into RtR even though she h...

Re: Combining 2nd and 5th

It is not recommended to do both Preparing and Bigger the same year as those 2 guides require the most teacher time. I think it would be a good choice for you since you need to combine them this year. The older one can do the extension pack and get caught up. :) Have you thought about using ...

Re: 2nd and 5th grader

Welcome to HOD!! Is there a reason why you want to place your children together (financial)? That is a pretty big age difference....I have tried it with both my girls 2.5 years apart) and my boys (2 years, 3 months apart) and it did not work out for either (other folks have done it successfully thou...

Re: We're back

Have you checked the placement charts? You said very little about the skills of your twins (other than 5th grade)....where are your twins skills as far as writing and reading? Did they do normal 4th grade level work last year? (when suggesting CTC that is what I assumed.....except for the reading wh...

Re: Summer schooling?

Thanks Melissa, I am not worried about bumping Steven up to Preparing (from Bigger even if we do not finish) as he now fits there on the placement chart and he is also on the older end of the age range (8-10 for Preparing and he is 10 1/2...will be 11 in Jan). Oh, one of the reasons we will be doing...
