Re: Anyone successfully using 3 HOD programs at a time?
I also am using 3 manuals (with 4 children). We just started this week so I am still adjusting my schedule for the best flow. We are using Beyond with my 6 & 7yo boys, Bigger with my 9yo (she does Bible & Poetry from Beyond with the boys), and my 11yo in CTC. My 11yo is mostly independent except for...

My girls like to play at the American Girls website. Bookadventure.com is not a game, but it quizzes you on books you have read and gives you points for redeeming prizes. My girls like that.

My non HOD books (and HOD that are not being used for the year) are organized as follows: This covers the 3 bookshelves that are in my school room: Landmark books History books (by time period) Biographies (by series [COF, Scholastic] then by person's last name) Music, Art & Poetry Science (by categ...

Tammy,
I am so sorry you feel this way. I am surprised no one made an effort. I can understand why you feel disconnected. Praying you find a true homeschooling family (or several) to connect with (HOD'ers would be even better.)

Re: Dictionary
We also have the Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. A friend had given us Scholastic Children's Dictionary and that is what my daughter used for Preparing....most of the words are in there and I like it much better than other children's dictionaries that I have seen. Webster's 1828 is also on my wishl...

Re: Is anyone out there from Upstate NY?
Hi Tammy,
I no longer live upstate NY (spent a year there). Have you checked out the LEAH website for local support groups? I think that is how I found mine at the time. http://www.leah.org/support.php?d=2. It would be awesome to find other local HOD'ers here too!

Re: Are the ages recommended set in concrete?
Nicole, Have you looked at the placement chart? http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php This should tell you into which program your daughter places by skill level w/o worrying so much about the ages. Be sure to scroll down for the other two "Further Consideration for Placing Your Child ...

Mumkins,
CTC covers the history of Ancient Israel as well as it's surrounding neighbors (the Sumerians, Egyptians etc). Here is the TOC of "The Story of the Ancient World" by Christine Millers which is the spine for history.
