Re: Biblical Philosophy and Goals in HOD
Hi Carrie, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed response today. I know you said you are swamped, so I appreciate your carving out this time to reply. I promise I have been digging into the boards with all the time I have and while I have gleaned a lot of information the...

Re: Biblical Philosophy and Goals in HOD
Whew, thank you Carrie for taking the time to post all those links. I just finished reading through all of them! :) I am gathering that HOD is very strong in teaching children the Word, helping them discern Godly character traits, and helping them develop their quiet/prayer time with Lord. I was won...

Re: Extension Package?
Are any of the extension package books used for regular reading in the other levels? Will there be any overlap if we go ahead and add them in? I like this idea! ETA: One other question: I noticed things like the Bronze Bow in the Preparing Older Students pack and Famous Men of Rome in the older CTC ...

Thank you! I found a couple of samples on the Beyond and Bigger devotionals, but couldn't really tell. I appreciate your input!

Biblical Philosophy and Goals in HOD
Hi, I think this may be my last "what is the philosophy" type question for awhile (I hope). : ) I'm wanting to know the overarching biblical philosophy for the entire curriculum and what the biblical goals are. I realize this is a broad question, but I'm wanting to know where we're headed, if that m...

Re: The Philosophy Behind Independent Work
Thank you, Patty and Julie! I appreciate your replies. Julie, I've printed all the samples and am slowly making my way through them. I know they will give me a better feel for things, like you said. I really appreciate everyone's input on this thread!

Re: The Philosophy Behind Independent Work
Carrie, Thanks so much for taking the time to write a detailed reply. The specifics are very helpful to me as I try to understand and become comfortable with this philosophy. You are right, my oldest is using LHFHG for K, so it is hard for me to grasp what third grade and fourth grade will look like...

Re: The Philosophy Behind Independent Work
Thank you, everyone, for your very informative replies. This has been a concern for me because I believe my older dd is a "Sociable Sue" and thrives on her interaction with me. I don't want the independent work to give her a sense of isolation. One follow-up question I have is, do you then pre-read/...

The Philosophy Behind Independent Work
Thank you for indulging my questions lately. I am trying to make sure I understand HOD's setup as the years progress and wanted to ask about the philosophy behind the increasingly independent work. I've seen several people mention the need for the olders to work independently so Mom has time to help...

Does anyone use all the book packs?
How feasible is it to use all the book packs available for a level? How do you do this? I really like the titles across all three options and would like to use them all rather than pick one set or mix and match across sets. Does anyone do this?
Thanks,
Kathy
Thanks,
Kathy

Re: Higher Level Thinking in HOD
Carrie, thank you very much for taking the time to write a detailed reply. I really appreciate it! This concept of higher level thinking has been weighing heavily on me lately as I've realized that I, too, was taught to give the "right" answer, both at school and at home. I want so much more for my ...

LHFHG Unit 19 Days 4 & 5 Math
p. 79 of 2A is listed for both days 4 and 5. I believe Day 4 should be p. 78 and Day 5 p. 79-80 to finish the book? Is this correct?
Thanks,
Kathy

Higher Level Thinking in HOD
Hi,
Can you please share with me in what ways you feel HOD encourages higher level thinking (thinking/reasoning/discerning for yourself vs. being told what to think or simply absorbing information) at the different levels?
Thanks!
Kathy
