Starting CTC 1/2 way through from another program
My oldest daughter is doing another program that is from creation to the fall of Rome. I'm not liking it, and I'm so excited about HOD and the CTC looks so incredible. I am thinking about starting her in CTC, but not at the beginning because I would hate to make here go all the way back and start ag...

Re: 2 in one program-narration
Thanks! Those links are great and the ideas really help. I'm new to this whole narration and dictation thing. Makes me sad for my older children who never got a chance to to HOD. Can I have a do-over and have my old teens (and my 20s) children go back to being little???

2 in one program-narration
So, how do you do the narration when you have 2 listening in at the same time. Do you just alternate who goes first? Do you do it separately? I haven't really done the narration.

DITHOR 4/5 or 6/7/8
I'm having my oldest daughter, that's still in school anyway, do the DITHOR starting pretty soon. We've never done something like that before. I noticed that the manual says to start anybody in 4/5 since the topics in 6/7 build on the things learned in 4/5. But what about for someone so old? Or, may...

Re: DITHOR- how long for book
That helps! I missed that she had given days for the book packs. I'm sure I saw it before, but I've looked at so many things I get lost!

DITHOR- how long for book
How do you decide how many days to spread out the reading to fill in that chart? You are supposed to make a choice of 3 books for 5 days, etc., is there something that helps you determine that?

Re: has anyone used 4 guides?
Carrie, I'm so grateful to you for responding so personally. Also, the others who replied were so helpful and it seems that everyone is agreeing to put the 14 yo in Bigger with extensions alongside my 2nd grader. I received my guides yesterday and I love them. Now that I've had a chance to look at t...

Re: What is extensions?
Thanks so much everyone. That is very helpful, each post gives me a little piece of the puzzle to figure this out. :) Thanks Julie, I needed to hear that. All of the different packages, extensions, DITHOR, emerging readers, read-alouds, etc., my head was spinning. :). Also, in reading all of the pos...

Re: What is extensions?
Sounds like I'm definitely not alone! It is so ridiculous how many books I have. We always need more and more bookshelves, and I just placed an order for a ton more. I can't wait to get them, and read them! :) Right now we've got ice again in Austin, TX. What am I worried about? I'm worried that it ...

Re: What is extensions?
I think I'm starting to get it. I'm sure once the manuals get here, it will become clearer. Should be here Friday! I'm so excited! It's so funny how we are all excited about books!!

What is extensions?
I'm realizing that I don't understand what extensions is. I thought it was just extra books to read. I don't understand how you beef up a program. Also, the DITHOR, I thought it was "generic" and not tied to a book. So, are there specific questions to specific books in there? Very confused.

Re: has anyone used 4 guides?
Thanks everyone! You all are so helpful. If I am understanding the curriculum (I don't have my guides yet, but should Friday!!!) then I don't think it would work to have my older one in Bigger and do extensions. Reading is not her strong point, she has a harder time processing things. Isn't extensio...

Re: has anyone used 4 guides?
Thank you for your reply. I was thinking the same thing about the little hands, it's so short but will give me something to do just with my littlest guy. Sometimes the youngest of 9 doesn't get that attention. :) I think that my girl is well placed in Bigger. She's already doing R&S 2 and is an exce...

has anyone used 4 guides?
I can't figure out how to cut down the number of guides. We are just wanting to start HOD and it looks fantastic. I've been homeschooling for 18 years now and I've used a hodge-podge over the years. I only have 1 left in high school after this year so I know there isn't anything for her, I wish ther...
