Re: Questions about Bigger

My 3rd/4th grader read all the extension books herself, as she is a voracious reader! I think it adds quite a bit of depth to Bigger. However, I don't think it would be necessary. They are intended for the older student, to extend the age suitability of the program. Some would probably work well as ...

Re: Going Down a Guide for the Right Side

It seems to me that if you need to go down a guide for LA, reading, and dictation your child may not be ready to do the assignments on the left. I cannot imagine a child at the level of Beyond in LA skills doing the writing in Bigger, for example. As the guides go up, there are more boxes than just ...

Re: Preparing for 2nd (8 in Aug) and 4th (10 in Jan) Grader

Thank you for all the ideas ladies!! After much praying, reading, and studying all your feedback I believe I"m going to go with Bigger as many of you recommended and add additional readers to my daughter's science/history curriculum if necessary. I read some mixed reviews on A Child's Story of Amer...

Re: Preparing for 2nd (8 in Aug) and 4th (10 in Jan) Grader

I've been posting on your other thread about Bigger, and I didn't realize you want to combine a 2nd grader into Preparing with your 4th grader. While I think your 4th grader could handle Preparing, I really would not encourage you to put a 2nd grader into Preparing. If you do not want to do two sepa...

Re: 4th Grade standards with Bigger

Yes, I know my 4th grader could have done Preparing; but we had started Bigger in 3rd half speed, so I wanted to finish it. I saw so much growth in 3rd grade! It was hard to believe.

Re: 4th Grade standards with Bigger

We started using Bigger in 3rd grade, half speed, and are about finished with it now, in 4th grade. As far as standards, I cannot help you. We don't have state testing or reporting, so I focus on always working on moving her forward through skills. We used the extension books, and my dd loved them. ...

Re: LHFHG Handwriting choices

I really liked ARFH K. I bought the teacher's manual to go with it, and it explained exactly how to tell the child how to make each letter. My dd had some fine motor skill delays, so handwriting was a struggle. She did well with ARFH, though. We started using it when she was 5-1/2yo. I have no exper...

Re: Another cursive question

I would give her another year of printing. In my opinion, she should be able to print well on wide-ruled notebook paper first before switching to cursive. I also suggest stretching Bigger over two years, since she is so young. There is quite a bit of notebooking in it, which may be challenging for a...

Re: Sneak Peek #8: New World Geography Guide

I am so sold on HOD, and these previews are getting me so excited! I especially LOVE this preview!

We have finished Beyond and Bigger, and it all just gets better and better.

Thank you, Carrie!

Re: cursive dilemma

SInce it is officially taught in Bigger, I am assuming there are explicit directions on how to use CC. I have never taught cursive, so I am not sure how to do it. Other than a schedule, there is no instruction on cursive in the Bigger manual. We used Pentime 3 and 4 instead, which is more of a trad...
