John Audubon Book up for auction tomorrow

Hi Ladies,

Just a bit of trivia for anyone in Bigger and reading or have read about John Audubon. One of his first bird books is up for auction tomorrow (1/20) and is expected to go for around $10 million. Thought it might be an interesting to watch and see what happens.

Re: Beyond Poems/Memorization

Hi Linda,
It is not required that they memorize the poems. By the end of the week, my ds could remember a lot of it from the repetition, though.

Re: Can I use Little Hearts...

Hi! I know some people have repeated LHFHG over for 1st. I have not done this, though. I'll let others weigh in on that option. We have a 5 yr old (July b-day). For us, this is her K year and next year will be 1st (school district thinks next year is K for her). She is ready now, but we are looking ...

Re: Advice on Placement for my youngest

Hi Julie, Thanks for the reply. I looked at the first weeks of both books again. You are right. She needs to be in Little Hearts. If her writing and overall manual dexterity were better, I would give Beyond a try, but she would miss quite a few boxes and she is not ready for the spelling, either. He...

Advice on Placement for my youngest

Hi Ladies, Last year, we were using Beyond and Little Hands for my 2 kids. We had LHFHG, but were not using it. A friend was looking for something for her 1st grader, but her husband was out of a job and they had no money to buy anything. I loaned her everything for LHFHG, except the phonics and the...

Re: simply not enough time...

Hi! Not sure if this helps, but if you only have 4 hours... What if you check off the boxes as you do them and what you get done that day you get done. The next day you start where you left off and go until your time is up. Not really half speed because some days you may get a day or more done and o...

Re: Binder sizes and Prep. Helps needed! :)

We've just started Bigger and this is what we are starting with (I used most of Julie's list that you referenced): One standard size binder w/dividers for History, Science and Science Experiments. 2 composition books - 1 for Dictation and 1 for R&S 1 notebook for Poetry He copies the Poem right out ...

Re: Emerging readers schedule

Hi Kim, The Early Reader's Bible is the easier of the 2 Bibles. The schedule for the first 9 units is to use one of these 2 Bibles. For The Early Reader's Bible schedule you just read a section and use the questions in the Bible itself. I can't remember if it is 1 or 2 sections each day (I loaned mi...

Re: Timeline

Opps. I guess I wasn't clear. Yes, Yes, Yes, I want to use the activities in Bigger and Preparing, but instead of on the folder for Bigger I wanted to put it in this book and then when we get to Preparing use the same book just earlier in the book and continue with all the guides. The book is spiral...

Timeline

Hi Ladies, Many of you are so great at organizing things so I have a question for you! We bought a blank timeline book with the intention of using it now and adding to it as the kids go through elementary (and maybe beyond). I'd like the timeline to start at creation and then go to present. It's pre...

Re: Testing...

We are required to test in our state. You have to be careful how you look at the results. If you don't cover the material in the same order as a public school, your children may not score high in that area on the test. Doesn't mean they are behind. You just may be covering it in a different order. I...

Re: Started LHFHG today...a few questions

Mandy, I have found that when we begin a new program it takes longer at first to get in the swing of it. We can't make our days any longer so we have slowed down to half-speed for a little bit. Once they get the hang of the format we go back to full-speed. I've found it better to slow down so they g...

R&S Preparing to Build vs R&S Stepping Stones of English

Hi Ladies, Not sure if anyone can help me with this. Someone gave me the "Stepping Stones of English" book from R&S for free. It says Grade 2 and from everything that I've been able to find on the internet it was replaced with "Preparing to Build". What it covers seems to fit the scope and sequence ...
