Re: Extra things made by you to ease your school day

Angie, I LOVE how you organize HOD. :D Do you know what those totes are called? I want to see if Walmart still has them. Well......I am kinda bummed :( . I was trying to find a link, and I could not find them at all. I actually stopped by Walmart today and looked, and they are not there :( . I am r...

Re: Extra things made by you to ease your school day

This isn't something "made" by me, but it was sure well worth the money spent last year. We have color coded tote boxes that I got from Walmart. I'm going to try and post a picture, but I don't know if I can, so I will describe them also. I guess some would say this is similar to workboxes, though I...

We did/do this exactly. Works well for us too. Just the right balance.

Re: singapore math : 2nd attempt to get suggestions

Oh, I meant to add this to my first post. It is from the MtM sneak preview thread, so you may not have seen it. It is a post from Carrie about not only her reason behind the choice for singapore, but also her thoughts about how math should be taught. It may be helpful as you ponder. (I hope I post t...

Re: singapore math : 2nd attempt to get suggestions

I started my oldest with Singapore in 1A. For a multitude of reasons (mainly because I was unsure/intimidated because it was so "different"), we ended up switching. My younger children had the benefit of a more experienced mom  , who finally learned that it did not matter what the schools did....

Re: RTR Postcards

We did the postcards, and DD did have just a slight issue with sizing at the very beginning. But after the first one or two, she could picture the end result and adjust her writings/drawings accordingly. They ended up being a very nice addition to the science notebook. I am heading out the door for ...

Older child doing Preparing--add Writing?

I need some input on writing for my dd11. Most of you will probably need background, so I'll give that, but will try to keep it as brief as possible. I had her combined with her brother (11 months younger) when we first started HOD, three years ago. We began with Beyond and it was a fantastic...

Ordering VideoText--Carrie get credit?

I know there is a link to order VideoText from the VT website, but is there a code or anything that we can enter so that HOD gets some type of credit or something? Seems like there should be. I wouldn't even have known about VideoText without Carrie's recs. Anyone know?

Re: Questions/Concern about Science and History

Hello, I just wanted to take a minute to comment on the science part of your concerns. My oldest dd (14 yo finished RevTRev this year) took her first science class at a homeschool coop this year for 8th grade. All her previous years of science were as written with the HOD guides and we have never h...

Re: Perfecting our Rod and Staff plan

I agree with the others on the oral reviews. Definitely worth the time on that part. As far as the lesson itself, it depends on the child. My oldest is more visual, so she does best reading the lesson on her own and sort of "doing her own thing". During our meeting time, I do the oral review, check ...

Re: Question about DITHOR

I think different people do it different ways. We have done it several ways. We have done it together. The oldest would just do it every day (even the days she wasn't scheduled to do it). That worked fine at first, but I had placed her in 4/5 at the time and she could have done 6/7/8, so the "extra"...

Re: Reading Question

Should I be concerned? What can I do to help her move past this? I don't think you need to be concerned at this point at all. It takes a while for kiddos to get the hang of blending----some, of course, longer than others. One fun way that we have worked on the modeling of this skill is with a phone...

Ditto what Mom2Monkeys and creativemommy said about the spelling and math, so nothing to add there.... Just wanted to say welcome to HOD. We just closed out our 3rd year with HOD, and looking forward to our 4th!

Re: Who is coming to see HOD at FPEA convention

I am jealous! I have never gotten to go to a convention where HOD has been :( . The closest one to me so far has been 6 hours away. My oldest dd and I have actually talked seriously about planning a vacation around a scheduled HOD "appearance"!

Re: Can one run 5 guides??

When I read your original post my head started spinning, but then I realized we've got 5 guides going here and it's fine. :D This is exactly what happened to me!! It sounds insane when you see it in print, doesn't it?!?! . But it really works well here. I do combine 2 of my kids, but the ot...
