Re: does heart of dakota work for large families?

Yes. There are families that have had their children combined in the younger years and then needed to separate at some point. It all depends on the children--which we can not plan. :) Sometimes one child will take off and/or another one struggle in a certain area. That's a benefit of placing them wh...

Re: does heart of dakota work for large families?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by your younger repeating a guide if you combine. You would never repeat a guide. The guides move up in level. When your child finishes a guide, if they have REALLY done the guide as expected, then they are prepared to do the next guide up. What I mean by that, is ...

Re: does heart of dakota work for large families?

If you look at her signature you can see the guides she uses. Another thought, it's hard to imagine what things will be like years down the road. Right now, you would only need to do the 2 guides. I would choose what is best for them right now and not worry about whether you could handle a bunch of ...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions

It does depend on how soon he can move to full speed. Another thing to think about though, don't worry about finishing a guide in one year. If you had decided to put him in Beyond, it would put him at least 2 years from completing Bigger anyway. Something that a lot of people have learned and come t...

Re: DITHOR Question

You COULD, but it would probably be best to wait. I wouldn't do DITHR until after you have gotten to full speed Bigger and it's going smoothly. It's so easy to see all of the wonderful things to do and get a little too ambitious. :) I'm speaking from experience!! I do the same thing EVERY year. :) I...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions

I think I would put your younger in Little Hearts and your older one in Bigger and do it half speed for however long you feel he needs it. There are many posts on doing things 1/2 speed, but I am horrible at searching and finding links. :) Basically, you split each day of the unit into 2 days--typic...

Re: Middle-High schoolers w/Dysgraphia & Auditory Processing

If I'm writing a long post, every once in awhile I highlight everything and do 'command c' like I was going to copy and paste it somewhere. That holds it just in case things get lost. :) It is so frustrating.

Re: diff way to fill out Signers cards-RevtoRev

That's a great idea! Thanks for the visual. I think this will be a great way for him and a great way to practice using the accommodations for things. We are just getting started with some helps and trying to figure it all out. We just got him an iPad with a bluetooth keyboard. We are getting Voice D...

diff way to fill out Signers cards-RevtoRev

Does anyone have a different way they have made the cards in the Signers research? We are going to start this in the fall and my son is dyslexic and dysgraphic. There is no way he can fill out the back with info. Suggestions?

Re: results from testing

Those are great ideas. Interesting about karate. He tap dances and is really quite good at it and he has been taking piano for about 5 years now. It's hard for him, learning the notes has been a struggle. He loves to do things by ear and he would rather compose his own music rather than following wh...

results from testing

I was pretty sure this was the case, but I had my 11 yos (12 in June) tested with a psychologist. He has dyslexia and dysgraphia. He was very low in the reading and writing, spelling the absolute lowest and she recommends some OT because he really did poorly on fine motor skills testing. She has oth...

Re: Eploration Ed. science w/struggling readers

This is the reply I received to my question... Right now the Standard and Advanced versions do not have the capability of reading out loud. However, we are developing our lessons (we already have several done) to allow for this and it looks like we will be ready in the fall. It will be accessed onli...

Re: High School for the special needs child

I think you just progress along with her needs and her speed and not worry about what the 'requirements' are. If she were in public school, they graduate based on their level. In speaking recently with a school psychologist in the local high school special ed dept, she gave examples. The requirement...

Eploration Ed. science w/struggling readers

I recently contacted the Exporation Education company that does the physical science Carrie chose for Rev to Rev. I asked if the computer read what was on the screen to the children. I noticed that the Junior edition did but it seemed the other did not. They said that they are working on that right ...

dyslexia and older guides

Has anyone successfully done the guides, like RtR and up with someone with dyslexia? Would you be willing to answer a few questions? That would be so helpful.

Thanks!
