Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
OH, BTW my one son is behind yours....he is 8 (in April) and going in Beyond in the fall. I do have him listed as going into 2nd grade though. We adopted him almost 2 years ago (totally new language/culture) and started him in Kinder at that time so he is older than other kids in his 'grade'. He is ...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
I am also in NY (somewhat near Albany). I have one son and one daughter with special learning needs and they both tend to score quite low on the CAT test (we do them every year as it is easier for me to just do those than a written report), but we have never had any problems with our school district...

Re: 4-day week?
That 5th day is usually used to finish up what they may not have finished in the week or for a co-op day.

Re: placement question
Your oldest is so much older that I would not consider combining him with the younger ones, besides if you continue, next year he will be in preparing and then on to CTC the year after that....lots of independence in that one and gaining more every year. Doing 3 guides is doable and I know others wh...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
If your son is going into 3rd grade Bigger might be better for him (it is great for 3rd grade!). My son (then age 9) started with Beyond this year and it was way too easy so I switched him up after a week (and switched his brother, then age 7, down to LHFHG as it was too hard for him...also those 2 ...

Re: RES to REF - Science/Weather & Shakespeare
My daughter loves the Shakespeare. She has low comprehension and has no problems with understanding the stories. We are using option 1 but I do own the other book (my daughter read it previously). We only read the books the year she did that one so I can't say anything about what the teacher's guide...

Re: Combining Help
My sons were in the same ones as yours and the same ages!! :) My 8 year old is not near as advanced as yours and will be in Beyond this coming year. I personally would not skip 2 levels.....but then again I know my son could never do it. :) Anyway, you could try it and if it does not work after 1-2 ...

Re: New to homeschooling with placement questions
Welcome to the board and to homeschooling!! I am graduating my oldest this year, so we have been doing this for a long time (started homeschooling her in 1st grade) and my youngest was in 1st grade this year (so we have many years to go yet!). Have you checked the placement chart? Where do your boys...

Re: Middle-High schoolers w/Dysgraphia & Auditory Processing
My daughter (almost 15) has many learning issues....Expressive-receptive language disorder and is mildly autistic (PPD). She has lots of problems with comprehension, reading and writing (also as she puts it "I can't get it out"). This year (9th grade) she is doing RtR and it has been a struggle for ...

Re: Week in Review: May 9-May 13, 2016
This past week we did our CAT tests (one is finishing up today).
Thus far we are this far....we will continue (more slowly) in the summer, but will be going normal speed until June 10.
LHFHG - Unit 23, day 3
Bigger - completed Unit 20
RtR - completed Unit 17

Re: want to return to HOD but I've created a placement probl
Skipping is OK if that is where you child now places. :) Using 3 guides is not too bad (I used LHFHG, Bigger and RtR this year). 4th grade is kind of young for CTC but if they place there great...also you can have they do it more slowly if needed (otherwise they will be going into the high school gu...

Re: Covering geography - map work
I agree with Nealewill. Place your child where he or she fits the best on the placement chart. Some kids will place on the low age range and some on the higher age range. All 3 of my younger kids placed on the higher end of the age range but that is because they all have special learning needs. I se...

Re: Junior / Senior High Questions..long...would love some h
It is full price tuition for the homeschoolers dual enrolling I think that must be dependent on the state or college.....My oldest (not HOD) was able to take an online college course (at one of the local community colleges) each semester this year at the reduced cost ($150 instead of $600). We did ...

Re: More questions from the newbie!
For testing we use the CAT and only do math, and LA....no science or history. None of my kids were reading when they entered first grade so I can't help you there....my 10 year old son (in Bigger) in finishing up the ERs. My youngest (age 8) will finish up LHFHG this summer but is not yet ready for ...
