Re: DITHOR Level Progression

I have had a hard time using each book in the book packs for this very reason. I move up a level when we finish a level. I choose books based on where I know ds is reading right now. He is reading A Mouse Called Wolf and working in the level 4/5 book (we just moved up to this level last week)right n...

Re: So excited! Getting ready to move on to Rev to Rev!

Yes, Lynn, it has worked very well. He has become accustomed to the work load and really does well through it. He is excited that he will be partly through 8th grade when he starts back in the fall. :) Due to some unforseen days off, we are about a week behind where I had planned to be, but that is ...

So excited! Getting ready to move on to Rev to Rev!

I have been ordering books over the last few weeks for Rev to Rev. Ds12 is finishing up RTR (doing 5 days a week on a 4 day a week schedule) and he has worked so hard! We are all so very excited to move to the next guide. The Science looks AMAZING! :) Just had to share my excitement.

Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?

We did Beyond in 2nd grade with ds8. He is a VERY YOUNG 2nd grader (late Sept Birthday and would have been a grade younger had he been in ps) and it was a great year! He moved on to Bigger this year and has done and exceptional job!

HOD is not "grade" specific, though...it is based on an age range.

Re: Grass is Greener Syndrome...help?

I am a recovered Curriculum Junkie myself, so I know what you mean. However, after finding HOD and experiencing such happy, successful years with it, I just totally lost the desire to switch around. :) I hope this happens for you in time too!

Re: Independence in upper guides doesn't equal less interact

I agree with you. There is more independence, which I truly relish. My older son is able to do so much of his work without my input or help. However, I find that we really bond over some of the material we cover now. In RTR, which he is using this year, we really get some great stuff from Boyhood an...

Re: I can't believe I didn't notice.

Did you happen to just start Singapore 2B today? LOL I ask that because we did too and the same thing dawned on me! My 8 year old knew the answer a lot of the time, but explaining how he got there to me was tough for him. I think we just need to keep plugging along and showing them. Did you see the ...

Re: room set up for HOD

I only have two children, so I really would be no help organizing your school room for 4 kids. I will say that my room started out one way and has changed and evolved as needed over the years. Right now, my two sons have seperate tables (small kitchen size) that are turned so they are not looking at...

Re: we take SO long to complete Bigger each day...

I see that you did switch ti Beyond and I definitely think that is the right decision given her young age and thinking on ahead about the guides she will be going into. I am short on time and I did not read through every single response, so please forgive me if this has already been stated. I was wo...

Re: Week of January 2-6, 2012

That is awesome about the Ipad for N, Lynn! My oldest ds got the Ipad2 for Christmas this year from his dad (we are divorced). The dragon dictation is awesome! But I really love some of the educational Apps they offer. Have you seen the ones on Space/Astronomy? My ds absolutely LOVED reading and loo...

Re: Week of January 2-6, 2012

We had a wonderful first week back with HOD Bigger Hearts this week! My older son was still at his dad's for Christmas, so it was just the younger and I. We learned a lot about Daniel Boone this week. We live in TN, so this was really interesting to all of us! Ds had heard the name many times (we li...

Absolutely! You can use the Extension package for your 10 year old 5th grader to beef it up...especially if he/she is a voracious reader.

Re: I think I may have placed them wrong....

I am glad that Carrie weighed in here. You have gotten wonderful advice. I was just going to add that my ds turned 8 in September. He is in 3rd grade, but really could have gone either way. At his age, and with his abilities, he is doing Bigger Hearts this year and absolutely loving it. He is advanc...
