Re: Extensions

In the catalogue under CTC extension package it says: "Due to the more mature content of the books within the ancient time period - both in the violence that was prevalent during this period and the depravity of the worship of pagan gods - this extension package is best suited for mature 6th and 7th...

Re: Foerster's Algebra 1 versus VideoText Algebra

Thank you Ladies! Your comparisons were very helpful. He is strong in math and it helped to hear the differences. I saw a recommendation for Video Text early on and thought we might go that direction. After reading your descriptions I think it wouldn't be a good fit.

Thank you! :D

Foerster's Algebra 1 versus VideoText Algebra

I was wondering what you think of Foerster's Algebra?

It seems like Carrie is recommending Foerster more than VideoText; is this correct?

What has been your experience with either of these Algebra programs?

Thank you!

Re: What age to start school?

I am on the opposite spectrum of thought. I thought age 6 was the youngest children should start school. My oldest started figuring out reading at age 3, and I still waited until age 6. He is a July Birthday so we started K shortly after his 6th Birthday. I have never regretted that decision. At the...

Re: CTC-The Story of the Ancient World question

I did what you did which was explain that we should always hold up everything we read to Scripture.

In CTC Christine Miller is used for the first 18 weeks, then the spine switches to Greece and Rome, and during the last weeks of the program the spine is the NT.

Re: Placement Help - Bigger

His grammar could start R&S 3. He turns 9 in August; correct? So he would be in the middle age range of Preparing. It sounds like he could benefit from the longer copywork and more focused written narrations of Preparing. I wouldn't worry about grades. Honestly, he sounds like Preparing would be a g...

Re: Placement Help - Bigger

Given how young he is, if I had to assign a grade level, especially for a boy who doesn't like writing, I would call him "3rd grade." Not that it really matters, as you say, at least not until high school. And it does sound like Bigger Hearts would fit well. You don't want to push him too hard. And...

Re: DITHOR Question

My dd started it last fall for 3rd at 8 1/2 years old. She is a very strong reader and has done very well with it. Since she hadn't read the level 2 books she started with those, which being easier for her helped with the analysis. We have been more on a book every week or two schedule so she also d...

Re: Storing Old Curriculum

I use plastic totes that stack well in our storage area. It works well. I also use it for the current year to prevent pre-reading of new curriculum. Our shelves are full of books they can re-read that are far enough down the road or finished. In August I purchase and pull books from the shelves for...

Re: Sample schedule for teaching LHTH, LHFHG, and BLHFHG?

Here is a thread they did awhile back of mom's schedules; it is also pinned to the top of the main board: http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2093 Since you are starting with 3 guides I strongly suggest stagger starting them, or starting them all 1/2 pace. It takes time to learn ...

Re: The Finish Line!

Thank you so much for the encouragement to stay the homeschool course through Highschool. :D I have been questioning our homeschool call this spring, and your post is wonderful and warm encouragement. Your testimony really touched my heart. Great job mom! :D :D :D
