Re: LHFHG: Heads up on Unit 16, Day 4 Devotional

I just wanted to clarify that the topic of concern is not about spankings or whippings in that sense. In this particular devotional, it was about a boy "really too young to be a soldier" being whipped by an army officer. It describes how they tied the boy Willie to a tree and took off his shirt and ...

LHFHG: Heads up on Unit 16, Day 4 Devotional

I have to say I am very troubled by the devotional today. I did not preview it and wish I had. It was first talking about the death of Christ, but then followed by trying to parallel Christ's death with the whipping of a child who took the punishment for someone else and ultimately died (p. 98 - 101...

Re: Missionaries/Missions

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been responding to my questions! I really appreciate all the suggestions and will be praying how we can be a missions-focused family. I plan to incorporate many of the suggestions you have provided. Thank you!!

Missionaries/Missions

Hi, I am currently using LHFHG with my dc for K and really like it. Last night at church we had a 6 hour bible study called "Secret Church" (done by David Platt in AL) that we've done a few times now (a different study each time). Part of the study is to learn about the persecuted church and those w...

LHFHG Unit 11 Day 2 Correction

In the math for Unit 11, Day 2, it says to replace the bottle caps with pennies. However, the Singapore book says to use marbles, not bottle caps. The next day does say "bottle caps", so either the marbles should be replaced with pennies on Day 2 or the Day 3 bottle caps should be replaced with penn...

LHFHG Week 10 Day 5 Science Correction

In the Key Idea it says, "He faced his horse away from the sun" but I believe it should read "He faced his horse toward the sun" in order for him to not see his shadow. That is how it read in the History Stories for Children book.

LHFHG minor correction - Unit 2 Day 5

I believe this is a minor correction for LHFHG on Unit 2 - Day 5: In the Math Exploration section, the instructions say in the last sentence to "glue one item on the number '1', two items on the number '2', and so on". Since the students are working with the numbers 6-10 and these instructions seem ...

Re: I missed a day, but I don't want to skip anything!

Hi, we are finishing up Week 5 of LHFHG and we are not on the "Day 1 on Monday" schedule due to some appointments and bedrest I had at the beginning of school. It has flowed very smoothly to just do the next day, regardless of what day of the week it is. In fact, one positive is that my daughter has...

Re: Setting up for Bigger and Little Hearts

Hi, we are in our 5th week of Little Hearts and so far some of the things we've needed are construction paper (including gray, a hard to find color - we used light blue), flashlights (with working batteries!), masking tape, a lightweight scarf or tissue paper, aluminum foil, cotton balls, sequins or...

Re: Kid being silly advice

We are doing LHFHG this year and I have found that doing the Rhymes in Motion right before snack time helps as far as not having to reign them in for the next activity.

Re: Pencil Sharpeners???

I don't know if this would help, but have you considered the yellow mechanical #2 pencils that twist at the bottom? They don't click when you erase, which is nice. Using these helps eliminate the need for the sharpener, except for colored pencils, etc.

Re: Future Geography through History Program

Hi Carrie, Thanks so much for your reply. If you extended the geography program into 9th for a few months, what would you do the remaining months? Or would you overlap it with another year-long program? It seems like then you'd have a lot of items on the transcript for the 9th grade year, which migh...

Re: Future Geography through History Program

Hi Carrie, Thank you for your response. If your son is doing geography in 9th, would you mind sharing what he did for 8th? Did he spend more than a year on one program? I think my preference is to avoid confusion with credits and just use the geography with biology for 9th, but I also don't want to ...

Future Geography through History Program

Hi, I am starting LHFHG with my Kindergartener this fall and as I was looking through the sequence in the catalog, I realized she would take the Geography through History program in 8th grade if she takes one program each year. It says the science focus will be biology. She will need biology in 9th ...
