Re: Breaks

Just an FYI, I am new to HOD, and haven't used it...but plan to for the fall, so I'm not sure if what I will say has much weight to it, since I'm not sure how it will work with HOD! But, anyway...we used to have one large break at lunch time. But, I recently tried the Workbox System, and it ha...

Re: Carrie, Clarification on previous Astronomy post???

Thank you so much, Carrie! That definitely clarifies! I honestly have to say this is THE MOST HELPFUL message board I've ever been a part of! And, to actually have the writer of the curriculum respond to MORE THAN ONE of my posts....WOW! Let me just say I am very impressed! I am saving like crazy to...

Re: Astronomy Replacement ????? Carrie?

Dear twoxcell - The confusion is not that it's God's Design she recommends. There are 3 books in the series of God's Design. One is option 2 in the RtR package, and it's called Our Weather and Water. But, there are 2 others in the same series she does not list as options in the RtR package....Our Pl...

Re: Astronomy Replacement ????? Carrie?

AND, it looks like the post I was trying to copy from Carrie did not work....so I am copying below.... Both options are appropriate for grades 4-8, so I wouldn't consider one more rigorous than the other. Exploring Creation with Astronomy is definitely written in a more living way, causing us to lea...

Re: Astronomy Replacement ????? Carrie?

My kids just did the Astronomy last summer, so it will have only been a year. And, they are older...10 & 13, so I believe they got quite a bit out of it. They did the Student Notebook as well, which I believe really helps them to retain so much more. I just think they will NOT be thrilled to do it o...

Carrie, Clarification on previous Astronomy post???

We are planning to use Ressurection to Reformation this coming fall, BUT we have already used Exploring Creation with Astronomy. (We used it before we even knew about HOD). I've been reading through some past posts and know there are a couple options. 1) Use option 1 and option 2 (just substituting ...

Re: Grammar question...R&S vs other programs?

Carrie- Thank you! :D Thank you! :D Thank you! :D I am feeling much more confident with the answers you've provided! I can't wait to start this fall. And, I agree that taking it slow to start will be wise, and we can pick up the pace when they get the hang of it. Also, a BIG thank you for helping me...

RtR1 -We've already used Apologia Astronomy, B4 we found HOD

We are planning to start HOD this fall using the Resurrection to Reformation Package. There is just one problem...we have already used Apologia's Astronomy before we found HOD. So, I had originally planned to keep going with Apologia, my kids like it. BUT, the more I read about the science choices i...

Re: HOD and Language Arts

8arrows, My daughter is 10 and will be in 5th grade. What you said is kind of a relief, about starting my son in grade 5. He is very easily discouraged, and if he were to see that he was using the same level as his younger sister...it would really upset him. I'm actually afraid of starting him in 5....

Re: HOD and Language Arts

Julie - A couple of years ago, I used the 3rd grade level for my daughter....she did ok with it. But, I used the 5th grade level for my son, and because of the newness of the diagramming, he got extremely frustrated, and so did I. I am attending a homeschool conference this weekend. Today was the fi...

RtR1 - What are the consumable items?

I am trying to figure out what I need to order for Resurrection to Reformation. I have 2 kids I'm going to put into it, though, so I need to know which products (besides the notebooking pages) are consumable?

Thanks for any input!

Re: HOD and Language Arts

WOW! Great information! Thank you all for taking the time to help us newbies! Because HOD is also new to me, I didn't realize the thought put behind the program. I'm beginning to see some things I hadn't seen before. LA is so tough to figure out, because it truly does cover so much info. Now, I'm re...

Re: Grammar question...R&S vs other programs?

Carrie - Thank you so much for sharing more about your vision for the Language Arts aspect in HOD. I am new to the boards, and new to HOD. I just recenly found HOD and truly feel led to it. And, the more I learn, the more I'm falling in love with it....and I haven't even ordered yet! LOL! I am reall...

Re: HOD and Language Arts

We also use CQLA, so this is a great question. I've read some other posts, but still am not 100% how HOD works, because we've not yet used it. I like CQLA, and don't want to go with R&S because we did give it a try a couple years ago and did not like it....especially the diagramming, as I feel label...

Re: Grammar question...R&S vs other programs?

I am new to HOD, and haven't even ordered yet, but feel led that this may be the year to do so! BUT, we have used R&S English in the past, and not only did my children not like it, I did not either. I do like the Biblical content, but did not like the diagramming at all, and personally feel labeling...
