Re: Placement for special needs high school

I just replied to a thread called Bigger or Preparing for special needs that you might be interested in. What I didn't mention was that I read the books to him or he listens to them on Learning Ally or audible. If you have any other questions I can try to answer and there are others on here with chi...

Re: Placement help: Bigger or Preparing for special needs

I have a child with dyslexia and dysgraphia. I made the mistake of continuing to hold back in the guides because I wanted him to be able to do it according to what was "assigned". He is doing CTC now, he will be 13 in June. He could be in a much higher guide, ready to do MTMM next year if I wouldn't...

Re: Can I use Bigger for ten year old?

I wanted to encourage you to go with Preparing since she places there. The guides are meant to build skills as you go through them and they gradually increase and encourage independence in more and more subjects. It's okay if she doesn't have American history until middle school when it is in the gu...

Re: Just started two in LHFHG and considering splitting them

It sounds like the middle ones are too far apart to combine well. They are almost 2 years, and that can be significant and also boy and girl. Not always, but the boys can take a bit to catch up--especially if he's just learning his ABCs. I would put her in Beyond and him in Little Hands. That gives ...

Re: Substitution Help

History would definitely not be lacking if you don't use the Genesis title. There is still plenty of science without those two books that he has read. Also, by the time he gets to those books in the curriculum, it wouldn't hurt at all to read them again. I know that I need to read things more than o...

Re: Placement Questions and Emerging Readers

You can read the books from the level 2/3 book list and not do DITHR.

Re: Need help placing and combining 6 kids close in age.

Based on what you have shared, I would look at Preparing for the 9 yo, and Beyond for the 6 and 7 yos. If you think that that is too advanced, then Bigger and the youngers in Little Hearts. If you decide Preparing and Beyond, you don't have to go full speed. You could begin 1/2 speed and work into i...

Re: written narr. with dyslexia/dysgraphia

It's the physical act of writing it down, forming the letters takes so much thought. Also, he can't spell at all so that is frustrating to him. When I mean can't spell, I mean, that he forgets the my is not spelled mi, and sometimes with write u for a, as in went to a store-but not always. He either...

Re: Placement Questions and Emerging Readers

I'm glad you are enjoying Little Hearts. It's a fun guide. Yes, you will be adjusting and tweaking throughout his schooling. :) No two students are exactly alike. Based on what you have shared, I would start on the emerging readers wherever you think he would fit best. It's nice to have them picked ...

Re: Help Switching to Heart of Dakota Next Year

I agree with the pp. I would have the 9 yo do Bigger, no DITHR and no extensions. I would combine the 6 and 7 in Little Hearts. And, personally, I wouldn't do Little Hands with your younger 2 at all. You have A LOT on your plate and trying to do too much would make it that nothing gets done ...

Re: Help! Need advice before I jump ship! =)

Let me first say that this is a season. :) You've got quite a lot on your plate, and it's okay to take some of it off. I will just tell you what I would do in your situation if it were me. I would not do the guide with the one in kindergarten. I don't know the age, but I would only work on learning ...
