Re: Questions about BHFHG

I will say that of all the curriculum and "stuff" we have used over the years, HOD is the stuff they remember. One of my boys asked me something about a bird the other day, and I KNOW we covered it (because I cut out all the little flaps for his lapbook, by golly! we covered it!!) but he had absolut...

Re: What Bible version do you use with the lesson?

My boys all have their own Bibles-they are the Adventure Bible and the Adventure Bible for young readers and they are NIV and NIrV. My personal favorite translation is my RSV, but that's from when I was in grade school *coughcough* so it's kinda old. I do like my Harper-Collins NRSV with the a...

Re: Combining 1st and 4th grader?

Welcome to the Boards! :-)
I am doing Bigger with my 8 and 10 year olds, but using the extension pack for the 10 year old. Carrie has some wonderful words of wisdom for you on combining and/or placement in the programs.

Re: Really need some advice!

I think whatever you decide is going to be fine. :-) Sometimes I need to hear that myself! :-) I am doing Bigger with my 4th and 3rd grader. The 4th grader is a bit above grade level in almost everything; so he gets the extension pack. The 3rd grader is a bit behind in everything, so he gets it as w...

Re: Our first day with HOD!

Awesome!!! I have to laugh when my bigger boys (especially the 6 foot tall 15 year old) enjoy the rhymes and actions as much as the younger ones! :-) It just proves to me that HOD has a pretty broad appeal. <3

Re: Need Your Wisdom!

Narration is something that we don't work as hard on as I think we should, so I can relate! I will ask the boys what they read, or what I just read to them, and they will say, "oh, something about a guy who likes birds and stuff." from our John Audubon book. I like Carrie's advice; just thought I'd ...

Re: where to start in the Emerging Reader Schedule

I'm not sure what the "right" answer is  but we skipped the Beginner's Bible. My son didn't care for it; he just got his "real" bible at church and thought it was too babyish now.  (he's in 3rd grade) We used some other beginning reader book we had around here until it was time to s...

OT-Just sharing some praise!

Lots of things have been going on in my house-but a few answered prayer/praise things I wanted to share! First of all, my 2 year old had two seizures a couple weeks ago-scary stuff! He had all kinds of testing and it appears to be all is normal! praise the Lord! So they call it a childhood seizure d...

Re: How does the dc in HOD learn their spelling rules?

I think my boys have learned it better since they have to sort out the "rules" for themselves-as someone else already mentioned. I would also put in a plug for dictation-my high schooler is doing a dictation based spelling curriculum, and I've seen him learn so much from that. Seeing his success act...
