Writing?

I know at one point Carrie posted a long explanation of the writing progression throughout the HOD guides. I was just looking for it but can't seem to find it. Does any one else know what I'm talking about? :D

Re: Where do I start?

From your short description I would place her in Bigger, but do be sure to check out the skill placement chart. As for you little one you could do LHTH. It is very quick and sweet, and it wouldn't add that much to your day for now.

Re: A Child's History of the World - Preparing

As far as I know the entire book is used except for the first couple of chapters. My ds and I are really enjoying CHOW, and Preparing.

Re: Read aloud - how do you choose?

I don't choose I read storytime to each of my kids for their guide. It never occured to me to do it any other way. I would hate to miss out on any of the great book selections. ;)

Yes there are and if you are going to buy one get the Home Instructors guide. It is designed for home use unlike the TM that is for classrooms.

Re: 5 yr old attitude towards school

You sound like a great mama so don't feel guilty at all. :) Some times we need to choose our battles. Ask yourself does it matter if he writes perfectly right now or can we put it on the back burner for a few months and then try again? A year from now will it make any difference? Also don't forget t...

Re: 5 yr old attitude towards school

I'll offer my two cents for what they are worth. ;) I say put the handwriting book away and let him enjoy being a little boy a bit longer. When K starts in the fall make a big deal about how he is now a big kindergartener and start K work then with Little Hearts. There is no way of telling how much ...

Re: Bigger science

In the Bigger guide science is meant to be read by the parent. Starting in Preparing the science box is independent. I had my ds read the science books in Bigger himself occasionally when I didn't have tome to get to them, but for the most part we did it together.

Re: Emerging Readers Question

You can fill in with the supplemental titles that are suggested. That is what I'm doing with my dd. I have her rotate between a supplemental title(or a few other books we own), and one of the Er readers. Also many people have there kids just read the level 2 and/or 3 readers and then start DITHR wit...

I require my ds to answer them with complete sentences. I don't know if that is what we are supposed to do though.

Re: How does Preparing relate to the next guides?

My ds is in Preparing right now and he just finished unit 17 last week. We are both loving it. The history in Preparing is awesome and there is no way I'd want to skip any of it. Carrie just does such a great job of weaving secular history with biblical history. I don't think it would matter that yo...
