Re: Composition resources used in HOD
We only use IEW and I don't find it hard to use in place of whatever other writing program is scheduled. I just follow IEW lessons. Personally I think IEW covers many forms of writing and is very thorough.

Re: Medieval history writing for RTR w/ no prior writing?
I have taught this (medieval writing by IEW) to a small group this year. There are both level a and b students in the group. In most cases the level a assignment is shorter for level a students. If you use the level a assignments it will still work. I don't know how it is scheduled in HOD, but you s...

Re: Medieval history writing for RTR w/ no prior writing?
You can use the level A suggestions in the medieval writing guide. No problems.

Switching out titles
I was wondering how possible it would be to switch out a book in HOD? For example there are several books about George Washington Carver. Do I NEED to use the exact one suggested? Couldn't I just switch it out for a book about George Eashington Carver if I already own it? No need to keep purchasing ...

Re: read aloud ? for Rev to Rev
I guess I was thinking of counting partial American history credit for eighth because our state doesn't require all of the guides that will be written for high school. We only need world history OR geography, 1 year of American history and half year each of government and Econ. So it was my intent t...

Re: read aloud ? for Rev to Rev
But if something HAD to be cut In Order to be able to financially afford using HOD, could the extensions be cut? Would the history portion still be credit worthy? I do understand all that is being discussed and appreciate the responses that I have gotten. I am in no way saying that the extensions or...

Re: read aloud ? for Rev to Rev
I was not going to purchase the extension pack or the story time pack. I would really like to have her read several American lit classics etc. which is my reason for opting out of the above two packs. I'm just not really sure of the purpose of the story time or extension titles. Since we are aiming ...

Re: read aloud ? for Rev to Rev
There just isn't time for me to read them to her. My concern is that she is already reading so much already with the history, science, literature, etc. she is a voracious reader anyway and I don't want to kill that love for reading. So she is already reading the content of the history, is it ABSOLUT...

read aloud ? for Rev to Rev
How essential are the read aloud titles to the history portion? The catalog says they can be omitted if limited budget. We would miss reading them, but at this point I will be having my dd13yo read them to herself. I'm concerned about the amount of reading for her. There is reading in history, scien...

Re: Guide lists pages not chapter titles
I don't think anyone is asking Carrie to rewrite guides, but a simple listing of chapters would be nice so that those who CHOOSE to use e-readers can. By not including the chapter numbers or titles does indeed seem as if the user it tied to the EXACT edition of a book sold by HOD. I do agree that cu...

Re: Guide lists pages not chapter titles
While I love to hold actual books, I can see the value of having the books on the kindle. Especially if two or more students working through the same guide. They can read on an e-reader AND we could essentially have more than 1 copy that way there is no waiting for someone to get done. It's just muc...

Re: R&S grammar vs First Language Lessons/Writing with Ease
Having used both programs with my three older girls I can say that they are very similar. I prefer FLL because of how well it is scripted. Both programs teach concepts in a similar fashion. You can't go on one persons opinion or experience. Personally I prefer to use FLL levels 3&4 first. I found th...

We use the Shakespeare study but not the notebook pages. Also dd prefers to read or listen to the story all at once instead of half each week.

Re: DITHOR worries
My advice would be for the first time you use DITHOR, choose a book that will be EASY for your child both in reading level and in the amount they have to read. I had tried to implement DITHOR in the past 2 years but never actually finished a unit w my dc and I think it is because we got sooooo bogge...
