Do You Use Any Singapore Supplements?

I was wondering if any of you use or have used any of the Singapre Math supplemental books (words problems or test books) for 1st graders.

Thanks!

State Standards

I will admit that I have anxiety about homeschooling "correctly". I think HOD is FABULOUS. I mean, I LOVE it. However, I keep finding myself feeling anxious in regard to state standards & more rigorous academics. I was a teacher, so I keep struggling with my former training regarding state standards...

Phonics Program? What do you use?

Well...I am at a loss on what phonics program to use. I reviewed both of HOD's recommendations. Since I wasn't crazy about one's use of decoding symbols and the other's lack of capital letters, I ventured out on my own. So, we ordered the Phonics Museum. I wish I had listened to Carrie! It's a great...

Need Advice for Son with fine Motor Issues

I am seeking advice about my son. Will is turning 5 on Tuesday. He would not be able to begin Kindergarten (in public school) because of his late birthday. He has mild language processing issues. In addition, he has a rare syndrome that causes some minor (and somewhat unknown) cognitive delays as we...

Re: FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WAS HORRIBLE!

I have 2 boys & 2 girls. You are RIGHT when you say they are SO different! One thing that girls really crave (especially when they are young) is a attention from and the approval of their mommys. It is hard for our toddlers and preschoolers to understand why the olders get so much of mom's undivided...

Re: Is my kid the only one

I think we have to be careful with early learning that our children don't "burn out" quickly, especially in the area of reading. I would err on the side of presenting a less challenging curriculum but focusing on the enjoyment of the read alouds. It is hard sometimes for us to simply read a story fo...

Need Some general Home Management Advice

I could really use your advice. I have a few "issues" that make my days hectic and get in the way of us having a productive school day. If you have insight into any of these things, PLEASE share! 1. I am DISTRACTED. If ADHD is a *real* condition, I definitely have it! Before I had children, I worked...

Re: Any "bad" experiences with Math U See?

One thought for Gingel... Saxon has a LOT of really good manipulative activities. Also, instead of using only one manipulative (like MUS), a variety of manipulatives are used. Then you also have the "traditional" practice with Saxon. Kids who use Saxon perform well on Standardized tests (if you care...

Any "bad" experiences with Math U See?

I am leaning toward MUS for my very visual son who has language processing issues. I am wondering if any of you have used it and if you have had any problems with it. I want to be sure it doesn't leave any gaps and that the children can solve problems presented in more traditional ways eventually. S...

Handwriting Help Needed

You'd think one area I could avoid over analyzing is HANDWRITING! I really think the Getty-Dubay Italic is beautiful. I think it is easier to write more quickly and maintain neatness with GDI. Also, I can see how the transition from the printing to the cursive italic would be easier. But I have a fe...

Help w/ Choosing Resources for my special learners

Hi! Let me say that I am so excited to begin using HOD this school year! I heard about HOD when asking about curriculum options on a Christian Women's Yahoo Group. A mom emailed me about HOD, and I was sold! It is so very impressive to me that when reading all the reviews of HOD from various sites, ...
