Re: Help - probably supplementing too much

I'm adding French to Preparing this year. I'm half dreading, half excited. But, schools here all start French in 4th grade, if not earlier. So, we're doing it and will yearly through 9th.

Re: Placement - First time homeschooler

If you can, I'd buy everything but the math, since you use your own. The deluxe books are for you to read aloud. They are many kids favourite part and really add a lot to the program. We started the day with Storytime so we could ease into the school day.

Re: Think I need to separate my oldest 2?

Yes! CTC was our split guide too. I think they'll be happier. Less competition. These guides are fairly independent. RTR more than CTC. I think it'll be an easy adjustment.

Re: Algebra II suggestions?

I wonder if Math U See's personal finance course would count? Might be more useful and probably easier.

Re: R&S Placement

I'm inclined to say do 4 this year, 5 next and 6 the year after. I'm not sure if that's too much though. I haven't done the guides higher than CTC yet. I know somewhere in there, there's a guide you only do half a level of English with though. But maybe as you are jumping in late, it'd be ok to just...

Practical Homeschooling awards

Is anyone able to read those? I'd love to know what they are for. They're just too blurry to read on my phone, tablet or PC. I tried enlarging. Just gets blurrier. I wish they were all the same size as Cathy Duffys. Those are easy to read. I love HOD so much, I'd love to know their awards.

Re: What is the placement for 1st grade?

You need to check out the placement chart to she where your child places skill wise. I think LHFHG is best for 1st, if your child places there, as that lines them up to finish the last guide in 12th. Neither guide has them reading books on their own for 3rd or 4th grade level. Beyond includes a sche...

Thank you for all you've given up Carrie

I often think about how much you've given up so that we may have such an awesome curriculum. The pressure to put a guide out every year must mean sacrifice so much of your time with your children for the benefit of us and our children. Especially with these highschool guides. I'm so glad for you tha...

Were the guides always 1 a year?

I'm just wondering, when I bought Beyond in 2009, what all guides were released at that time? I was reading through old posts. I'd totally forgotten it didn't look like there'd be highschool guides back then. So if I purchased Beyond in 2009, only Preparing was out?

Re: Average Mom

I have no postsecondary what so ever! I'm not worried! The beautiful thing about HOD is how independent it is. Once they've come up in HOD, they'll have all the skills and knowledge they need at those higher grades. They'll be fine! And you'll learn more too. I just taught Rod and Staff English 3 an...
