RECORD KEEPING
New to HOD this coming fall and using 2 guides (3 kids ages 9-12 in CTC, one with extensions and one in LHFHG). Of course, I know many of you use some sort of record keeping right within the guide, using checks or initial to mark the boxes as they're completed. However, I am wondering what any of yo...

Subscribing to a forum
If I subscribe to a forum (the Main Board) for example, will I be sent an email for EVERY REPLY to EVERY THREAD? Or just an email for every thread that is started, with the option to then subscribe to that thread, if desired? I'm hoping it will just be one for every new thread as I'm finding it hard...

Re: Handwriting ability
Love Julie's reply! Just another thought, outside of school time you can do fun activities that will help his fine motor control and hand-eye coordination. Of course, I suggest you Google what some of the best ones for you might be but some starter ideas are: play doh, buttoning big buttons, tying k...

Re: Would this be a problem?
There is a reason for reading books a portion at a time over a long period of time. It allows for the mind to absorb and "feast" on the ideas. It is part of the whole CM philosophy or methodology to deal with books this way and there are benefits to it. The way Carrie has laid everything out is very...

Re: Guilt about using HOD and not planning my own
Thank you, Motherjoy for starting this thread and for all who have contributed to it! I'm a mom of 7 (though not so closely spaced) who has found my time totally consumed following another CM curriculum that I LOVED but required me to source all my own books, co-ordinate the different kids schedules...

Re: LHFHG: phonics placement
Thank you, ladies, What you say makes complete sense. I think my plan at this point, subject to change if his reading level changes drastically during the summer, will be to finish 100 Easy Lessons in the fall, followed by both Bibles (since we already own them both! :D ) as we transition into the E...

Re: Not Learning Letters
I do have a call into the eye Dr. to schedule an appt. I want to encourage you to make sure you see more than just a regular optometrist. Make sure they check not just eye health and vision (ie 20/20 kind of prescription-type diagnosis) but also developmental issues, tracking, convergence, etc. I'v...

LHFHG: phonics placement
I'm starting my oldest 3 in CTC this coming fall and have been wrestling in prayer over whether to place my 6yo DS in LHFHG or in the curriculum my oldest 3 used till now. I think we've decided on HOD. If we do decide to go with HOD for our 6yo, I think LHFHG will be the best placement as, although ...

Starting HOD - half rate for one/a few weeks?
We'll be starting HOD this fall. I'll have 3 in CTC and have yet to decide whether to continue with our previous curriculum for my 6yo or put the investment in LHFHG (there are 3 more to follow him). Anyway, my question pertains to the fact that nothing ever goes "as planned" the first week or two o...

Re: Canadian's using HOD
I am originally from Canada but have grown up in the States since I was 6. We are going to my cousins wedding later this summer and I know my relatives will have a lot of questions about homeschooling (many are public school educators). What is homeschooling like in Canada? Is it a big movement? Ju...

Re: Daily schedules for large families - please share
I'd love to see the rubric sheet if you could share it or direct me to it! I have one for sure that will do the least, most sloppy work possible to get by. Unless there is a standard, he won't have something to work towards.
Blessings,
Blessings,

Re: CTC Extensions
LOL, I may need to do both: have the photocopy for him to take to his room to follow the instructions and have a box to check off on the appropriate page of the guide as well.

Re: Daily schedules for large families - please share
Do you find that with the older ones, say CTC and up, that you have to work with them earlier in the day to go over instructions, do the semi-independent groundwork, so to speak, and then have to get together again later to hear narrations, review written work, etc.?

Re: CTC Extensions
Oh, good idea! We'll have 3 using the guide, so that will really help.Gwenny wrote:One tip I have for ease of use with the extensions. I would copy out a page of the extension schedule, fold it, and it becomes the bookmark for the book they are on. Saves on flipping there everyday.

Re: Daily schedules for large families - please share
Thanks, Julie! That was exactly what I needed. Carrie's charts including CTC I'm printing out for reference as I build mine. (That's the exact same format as I've been using, only I have 6 kids across the top beside me, 7 this coming year.) And the links for using multiple guides will be great to re...
