Re: Singapore 2A/2B

Thanks, Kathleen! Yes, I was referring to the Earlybird books for Kindergarten. I would like to use the LHFHG that I have for my youngest (when she gets there), so I was wondering if I should get the math books now to make sure that I can use the math activities that are in my manual. Does that make...

Singapore 2A/2B

Just wondering if anyone knows how much longer these books are going to be available. Thanks! :D

Re: The HOD booth was a hoppin' place...

Lora Beth,

You still have time to change your mind. Earlybird registration for the NC convention is open until the 23rd of this month. I think I am going to get to go, and I would love to meet a fellow HODIE from NC. No pressure.

Re: CTC Reading About History Research

Thank you, Carrie, for your specific points on how to help my children learn to do this box, since they did not have the training in Preparing. I wrote a little sticky note with skim, headings, summarize, etc. and put it on the page for today near the Reading about History box. Of course they asked ...

Re: Finally! A plan! :)

Catherine, I want to echo 4froggies sentiment that you should not worry about doing 2 -3 guides at once. As you can see from my signature, I am doing 3 guides. I tried doing all three of my oldest in Bigger, but my 8 yo ds (who really places in Bigger) was getting lost in the mix. His older brother ...

Re: Finally! A plan! :)

Catherine, First of all, congratulations on the coming of your new little one in August. I have three summer babies myself. One in June and the other two 4 days apart in July/August. The only thing I thought of was that four might be a little young to start LHFHG for Abby. I don't know what ki...

Re: LHFHG without LHTH first?

I have to agree with the other moms. I, too, started my 5 yo ds in LHFHG this year without having LHTH before it. He is doing just fine. If your daughter is reading (you go, girl), then she should really enjoy LHFHG.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: New Intro

Greetings and Salutations! Isn't it awesome to find HOD?! I, too, looked at the other CM programs boxed, free or otherwise, and nothing fit quite right. HOD puts it all together, and It's not just a list of pages to read or a list of activities to do for a certain period of history. Carrie has thoug...

Re: Repeating Astronomy?

Thanks, Carrie! It has been a couple of years since my son and daughter have done the Apologia Astronomy book. My only other question is, they will be 12 and 11. I don't think they would be ready to do Signs and Seasons, but would doing Option 1 and Option 2 be more challenging than the Astronomy bo...

Re: Ordering RTR, have some questions?

No problem! Glad to help! So glad to have you here on the HOD board. I think you and yours will enjoy how Carrie has put so many wonderful books and materials together, organized it all, and laid it all out so nicely.

Re: Ordering RTR, have some questions?

If you look at the example of the first day of RTR, you will see that Forbidden Gates (from the Basic History Set) is scheduled for you to read with them in the Storytime Box. So the Basic Set is part of your everyday schedule. The Extension pack books are read by the students on their own in additi...

Re: CTC Reading About History Research

Thank you, Carrie. That helps so much. My 2 oldest did not do Preparing, so although they are 10 and 11, I think I need to sit down with them, as you mentioned, and show them what to do and what's expected of them from this box. Since I know that you don't just put assignments in there without havin...

Re: Preparing Placement Question

Thanks for the confirmation, ladies. I was leaning more towards slowing Bigger down, but then I get to questioning myself and thinking that he should be starting Preparing in the fall because he will be 9 and I want him to finish the next 4 guides before high school, etc., etc., But I need to rememb...

Re: Truly Excited!

This is so awesome! I am so happy for you. There's nothing like finally finding what fits you. It's like when I first got my glasses, put them on, and said, "That's what the world looks like in focus. COOL!" HOD kinda does that for you with homeschooling - "This is what homeschooling looks like in f...

Re: CTC Reading About History Research

That's exactly what I was wondering. I haven't made them write down the answers to these questions, and so I just said, "Hey, what did you guys find out about . . . . .", and I was not satisfied with their verbal answers. I try to limit how much they have to write because my 10 year old son HATES to...
