Re: Organizing storytime & DITHOR books

I bought a set of file folder labels that are white with a strip of color on them. I cut the labels into thirds and then wrap each piece around the bottom end of a book's spine. I color coordinate the labels with the manuals. For instance, I use the labels with red stripes for all LHFHG books, dark ...

Re: Can I use R&S 3 w/ Bigger

We used R&S 2 with Beyond last year, so we'll be doing R&S 3 with Bigger. I think it can be easily substituted.

Re: Beyond Science Experiment - What did I do wrong?

Well, now that summer is here I finally had a chance to retry the experiment. I used 1/2 water and 1/2 milk, as suggested, and still no colors appeared at all. We've also tried a range from skim milk to 1/2 and 1/2 without luck. Anybody else have any other suggestions on how to get this experiment t...

Re: Daily school schedule

I used to start the day with "Learning through History" because I thought that would start our day off on a positive note, but then I found my ds was more tired when it was time to do the more demanding subjects, such as English, reading or math. We changed our schedule so now we do "Learning the Ba...

Re: How hard is it to use 2 guides?

Before I had my son, I was both a math teacher and a special education teacher and thus I had many students with ADD. From that experience, it is my opinion that the way HOD is written is perfect for those with ADD for several reasons. First, because everything you need for the day is on a two-page ...

Re: Little Hands devotional?

I saw it on the website a few weeks ago, so apparently it was taken down since then. If my memory serves me correctly, it was put up when one of the other devotionals was out of print, but that is no longer the case. The two that are currently listed are the ones scheduled in the LHTH guide, whereas...

Re: Stone Fox

I found the ending to be VERY sad. To this day I can't read it without crying. My ds is very sensitive, so I've decided to hold off reading it until he's older and more mature. I think it's a very good book, I just know he's not ready yet.

Re: beyond unit 22 playdoh

are we supposed to reconstitute the powdered milk to make 1 cup liquid milk? i did. I think it is supposed to be dry milk, not reconstituted. That's how we did it and the dough turned out the right consistency for forming the grasshopper. I have the tendency to sometimes think that hands on activit...

Re: Skipping a Guide

Thank you all! Julie, He hasn't done DITHOR, yet. He could have last year, probably easily, but we (after good advice from this board and you), chose to do the ERS. He's breezed through the ERS, but I still think it was a good plan to start there, especially since the ERS was all oral. As far as pla...

OT - Standardized Testing Issue

Okay, I know I'm in the midst of PMS, but I feel like crying. My ds is doing his standardized testing this week using the SAT-10. I've been able to be the proctor, so have been checking his work as he goes along. Overall, he's done well and I think his scores will be good, but I just don't know how ...

Re: Skipping a Guide

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate your insight. It's always helpful to hear from those who are more experienced. :) I'm still wavering, which is no surprise to those who know me. On paper, it looks doable and a good idea, but I have a feeling in my gut that I might r...

Skipping a Guide

About this time last year, I was vacillating between starting my ds son in Beyond or Bigger. After receiving a lot of great advice on this board, I chose to use Beyond with the LA from Bigger. It's been a great year and my ds has loved doing HOD. The only issue has been that, although the LA from Bi...

Re: sonlight vs heart of dakota

Beth - I am glad that you know where you stand on this decision already! :D I can see the practical need for you to decide how best to let your friend know your decision not to use Sonlight - in a way that is honest yet hopefully does not offend her. Maybe you can borrow some of my reasons I...
