Re: Foerster's Algebra

Thank you, Stephanie. Still looking for roughly how long you "budget" into your day for Foerster's. Also, how frequently have you pulled out the thumb drive to get help with a chapter (once a week/month/never)? I know that will vary depending on my teaching comfort and my student's math abili...

Foerster's Algebra

How much time do you allot each day for Foerster's? Do you use it 5 days a week or 4 days in order to finish during the school year? Any tips on scheduling or use would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Sneak Peek #5: New American History Guide

I love this choice!!! Michael Farris has been a household name in my family for more than 5 years because of his work with the constitutional support of Parental Rights. This will be one of the subject areas in the new guide that I look forward to participating in. I'm so glad they are in DVD form! ...

Re: R&S in highschool

We are continuing in the same pattern because the book is still written the same way. We typically do everything orally that can be done orally and when a writing assignment appears or a diagramming assignment, we logically switch to paper or white board.

WG Living Library: Word to Caesar

My daughter is absolutely loving this book and wanted me to encourage other families to have their kids read it. :D She mentioned that it has been placed on her "favorite books list". As an aside, I'm reading Big John's Secret (the next book in the Living Library set) and I'm really enjoying it. I k...

Re: Typo on the cover of the World Religion Notebook?

Iowa Mom & Carrie, I just wanted to mention that when we opened up the Notebooking pages a few months ago to begin WG, my daughter asked the same questions: "is this the proper use of an apostrophe?" "is it supposed to be used possessively?" I was so impressed with her keen eye and the mere fact tha...

Re: Sneak Peek #4: New American History Guide

I'm really grateful for the scheduling of a government curriculum. I would have NO idea how to select or implement such a program. I am glad to see that the authors of Whatever Happened to Penny Candy have another book and that it is being used.

Re: Math after Singapore 6A-B

My dd finished 6B in 6th grade and we wandered around for 7th trying to find a good fit. I knew she needed a PreAlgebra program because she wasn't ready for Alg 1. I'm not very pleased with what we tried so I won't mention it here but I do plan to use Math Mammoth 7a/7b after Singapore 6b for next d...

Re: Sneak Peek #2: New American History Guide

I'm especially excited about the music. If these books/CD's are anything like the previous ones in MMtM and before, they include the musical score. I love how my daughter would sing the hymns with music in hand. Our church service is contemporary so these historical and God-honoring hymns are oh so ...

Re: "just a little more" takes lots of time

I'm so thankful for this conversation. It's tough as homeschoolers not to follow every new product-whim that pops up and interject another product into the day. This was my weak area prior to HOD (I used a more open ended history program that never gave me a set stopping point and we accomplished ju...

Re: Essentials in Writing Praise and Question

Dorinda, I'm not sure what HOD would recommend; but, if I were you, I'd try WH with the recommended writing grade (the EIW 11). We are using WG right now and not all of the lessons of EIW 10 are scheduled into the guide. There are sub-lessons like 10B or "optional" this or that which are left out. I...

Re: algebra problems in Sing. 4A

Gwenny, Do you have the TM (not just the answer book)? That's one of the biggest reasons I have it. The solutions give the bar graphs so you can show your dc how to solve the word problems the Singapore way. :) My brain immediately goes to solving many of the problems in a traditional algebraic way ...

Re: Middle School Math - BEFORE Foerster's Algebra

LOL...that makes more sense. I was starting to feel like a real slacker! 8) I'm glad you feel confident about just keeping a sure and steady pace! In terms of 7th/8th math, I think some kids really are ready to start Algebra in Junior High but my oldest was not even though she had been prepared from...

Re: Middle School Math - BEFORE Foerster's Algebra

Katrina, You are making me feel bad. :? My oldest has done Singapore K-6B and I've never recorded any grades prior to Algebra! We just give stickers for completion and have to redo missed problems. Youngest is 10 and starting 4B. I'll tell you the one thing I learned with oldest and that is DO NOT R...
