Great ideas! Thanks for sharing. The 2 bins idea is right up my alley. I'm going to do that as soon as I find bins to fit in my cupboards. Once my kids get older, I will definitely take Candice's advice too! I do have my 7 year and almost 5 year old play with our 8 month old baby for 15 min. each to...

We've used the BOB books too, and really liked them as an accompaniment to our phonics program. They are in black and white, very short and funny, and easy to read. We're using them the second time with our second son. I do the sticker chart thing too!

I agree with the advice others have given. If you checked out the placement chart, and Beyond... seems the best fit, I'd jump in with that. We did Beyond... last year, and Bigger this year. I think doing Beyond... really prepared my son for Bigger... Lots of skills like oral narration, etc. are taug...

I can totally relate to what you are saying. I've got 3 boys, and my baby is in a very difficult stage right now, which adds stress all around. My husband is gone a lot, and that makes me even more tense at times. So, first of all, give yourself a break! You just moved, you're probably feeling quite...

Thanks to everyone who responded! This is a tricky thing always. I agree with what was said. Drawn into the Heart of Reading is a great way to combine different levels, in an especially easy way since it was written for that purpose. I've found it easy so far to balance several Heart of Dakota curri...

One other thought... you could do 2 days' worth of LHTH each day, and finish it more quickly without losing out on all of the great stuff there is to do there. We did begin Little Hearts for His Glory with our gung-ho for school son when he was 4 1/2 years old. It was a good fit for him, even though...

To combine or not to combine? Please share insights.

I'm combining my children for this and that this year. As our little one grows and I have 3 to homeschool, I'm curious what others have to say about combining their children. What works? What doesn't? How are you (or aren't you) choosing to combine Heart of Dakota's curriculums? Etc.!

Can everyone share what they're reading for read-alouds?

I thought it would be fun to share what we're doing for read-alouds. I'm always looking to add new GOOD books to our reading list. We just finished Baby Island, and both of my boys LOVED it. What are you all reading?

Hi Durea! I think you just need a word of encouragement here! Matt sounds like a pretty typical boy to me. I have 3 sons, and they can all be exactly the way you described. It seems like different things have worked for my very different from each other sons. For example, for my almost 5 year old, I...

Hi Debra! It's nice to meet you! I am using DIHOR too, and have been for awhile. If you are an excellent reader, then DIHOR is right up your alley. You will love it once you get into a rhythm with it. If you have any questions, just fire them away on this board. Everyone is so helpful here! Glad you...

HI Lee Ann! You are doing a great job! Reflecting is a super thing to do in homeschooling. I do it all the time! I have a sneaking suspicion you may be like me in your desire to "finish" things. That used to bother me with copywork - if we didn't finish the whole thing. Or, maybe your son is the fin...

Hi Lee Ann! We put on Christian radio during Copywork and drink hot chocolate. I set the timer, and he copies about a 1/3 of the poem a day. Like Carrie, the last day is just for decorating (which my son does not do such a beautiful job of, but he enjoys the change of pace). We've had frustration or...

I'm using several programs at once right now (LHFHG, BHFHG, and DIHOR). I decided to do just half of the plans each day from LHFHG with my 4 yo son. We do the left side of the plans one day, the right side the next day, etc. It will take me a few years to get through it, but then he can start BLHFHG...
