Re: Congrats HOD!!!
Love it! :D Congrautlations HOD!! :D I know when we were 1st homeschooling, I had several friends also starting out, and they wouldn't use anything that wasn't one of Cathy Duffy's top picks. I tried to tell them that Cathy just must not have picked up the guide(s) yet, because I was quite sure they...

Re: Two questions on implementing HOD/DITHOR
Hi Monica! We don't worry at all about keeping the genre for storytime and DITHOR lined up. We had it line up a couple times in Bigger, too, but I actually found that I liked it better when they were different. It seemed to make the story elements and character qualities stick better if we were hitt...

Re: A Reminder to Always...
Really? I made my girl do both in Bigger last year. And I did read the Introduction / Appendix. I messed that one up... We did, too...and I read the intro. I'm thinking that it says that the copywork is optional if the child is doing cursive. We added it in at about unit 10, and it was a good thing...

Re: Still not settled 100% (LHFHG vs. Beyond)
Hi! :D In reading your post, I'm thinking that Beyond sounds like a great option for your 1st & 3rd graders. I think that if you are sure that your 7 year old needs LHFHG, you may want to consider splitting the pair up. But, from what you shared here, I don't think that you necessarily need to drop ...

Re: States and Symbols
We did talk about the states within the context of American History in Bigger. And, here is the link to the state study that is included in Rev2Rev... http://www.heartofdakota.com/revival-to-revolution-descriptions.php#fifty-states We're planning to use that guide this coming year. :D I just got my ...

Hi Kim! :D We're getting ready for Rev2Rev here, too. :D I think it looks like it will be a fantastic year! I know the science will be a hit with Grant...he will LOVE the inventing and hands-on aspect of EE! Sounds like your guys will, too. Here are the box times that either Carrie or Julie shared l...

Re: How many genres per year for DITHR?
When we were 1st starting DITHOR, I let my son pick out which book he wanted to start with. He loved that! :D I had purchased the 2/3 book pack to use, so I set them all out on the table and we went with the one he picked. Now that we've been doing DITHOR for a while, we make sure to get in all 9 ge...

Can't wait for bedtime...
...because our BOX came today!!!! :D As we drove in the driveway this evening after a couple hours at the pool, the kids said, "Hey Mom! Is that our school books???" YES! (I totally forgot it was Thursday, or I may have wanted to stay home and wait for the UPS man... ) THEY want to dig in, but...

Re: Confused about what to use after Singapore 6B
Hi Miranda! :D I know that I can't totally clear up the math route for you...but I will tell you what I do know. Discovering Mathematics 1A picks up where Singapore 6B leaves off. I don't think there is any reason to do anything in between 6B and DM 1A unless your student was really strugglin...

Sara, Here is a thread with 3 pics of the flapbook. :D http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=7209 Grant's picture of it is in the first entry there, then Heather has one a little ways down, and Lynn H has one on the 2nd page. Are you getting started with CTC?? We so enjoyed...

Re: Scheduling Help
Are Brayden & Bryce doing the same thing for math? If so, I would maybe do their math lesson together and sit in between them while they work on it. :D (Unless that makes you crazy and you would prefer to just have one at a time... ) I also think you need more than 30 minutes for LHFHG left s...

Here are a couple sample pages that I took pictures of once-upon-a-time. Allison just started using Cheerful Cursive this past spring, and it gets 2 thumbs up from her so far, too!

Re: OT: Age of child at graduation
We have late spring birthdays for the oldest 3 here. Grant's b-day is in April, but Allison and Garret have their b-days in late May after we finish our "grade" for the year. We've done K when they're 5, 1st when they're 6, etc. (just like you currently are with your kiddo). Allison will be finishin...

Re: RightStart vs Math-U-See vs Singapore
We love Singapore Math here! :D Math has always been a favorite subject of mine, and I LOVE the way it's taught with Singapore and Carrie's activities. You don't need anything else to make it complete. Singapore does a great job of teaching the kids to think mathematically. They really learn to unde...
