Re: Read-alouds for CTC and another guide??
Allison, are your children also doing the Extension Books themselves? I was thinking that he would do those but I guess he could just read the read-alouds instead No we aren't using the extensions. My boys are 4th and 5th grade, so they fit into the age range nicely. I think the extensions would ha...

Re: Read-alouds for CTC and another guide??
How about having your oldest read the history read aloud set on his own? (I only suggest this because he is on the older side of the guide.) Then they can both listen in on the Beyond set? I started out reading aloud to my boys from the history set, but after adding in Beyond with my youngest, I now...

Re: Julie's Mom Devotion book
I loved this devotional book! It was wonderful. Everything in it was so applicable to my life. I highly recommend it, and really wish she would write a sequel.

Re: Beyond with a 3rd Grader
There is so much to Beyond that I think you will be fine. :) If you really feel the need to up the science, you could add in a CLP Nature Reader for your son to read on his own. Did he enjoy the one scheduled in the Emerging Reader set? If so, that would be a very easy, inexpensive, and not time con...

Re: List of questions to help me decide about CTC
Hi Tracey. :) This year my kids were in 5th, 4th, and 1st grades too. We used Little Hearts (had spread it out over two years) and CTC. I'll try to answer some of your questions. :) 1)You can always use your own LA choices. That's part of what makes HOD so great. Although, I will say, we have grown ...

Re: Wow, I am so impressed!
I agree. I was so impressed the first time I looked through a HOD guide. So complete! And God honoring. We have now used Little Hearts, Bigger, Preparing, and are 1/2 way through CTC, and the guides just keep getting better.

Re: Has anyone used books from the extension as storytime books
This is very helpful information, Carrie. I will try and stay with the scheduled packages when choosing books in the future. There are still so many to choose from with the boy, girl, and classic sets. :) Thank you for your explanation. I'm always so impressed with how much thought goes into your gu...

Yes. It is based on the Charlotte Mason philosophy. The link above does a wonderful job of explaining the HOD educational philosophy. Hope this helps.

Re: Has anyone used books from the extension as storytime books
You have a girl, is that right? I would read Tolliver's Secret over Guns for General Washington based on the age of your dc. My boys loved Guns for General Washington, but they read it themselves. Sarah Witcher is listed as Historical Fiction. I think you could probably use that for Adventure though...

If you go to the HOD bookshop, you can search the books by genre.

I don't think so- it is listed as historical fiction. But I haven't read the book.

Re: Has anyone used books from the extension as storytime books
Hi lovedtodeath. We did that when we used Bigger. There were a few books in the storytime titles that we had already read, so we just chose a few from the extension pack and substituted with those. Almost all of HOD books are sorted by genre in the bookshop, so it's very easy to do. Our favorite boo...
