Re: It's been rough, but.....

That all sounds great, I wish there had been something like that a few years back when I started homeschooling. Of course it never even dawned on me to host such a thing. Good for you! I will be praying for you!

Re: I just placed my order!!!

I will be praying that the Lord will show Himself mighty and provide exceedinly, abundantly above all you could ask or think of, as well as protection during hurricane season, and peace that surpasses all understanding for your dh (and you as well).

Re: Handwriting for a pre-K/K-er?

Skills like writting can take more time to develope for some children than for others. You will know best if she is ready for a writting program or not. I do have to say that the ARFH-K however is a little different than the standard handwritting workbooks you will find in stores (like Dollar Tree, ...

Praising the Lord with you! Brings a tear to this mama's eye!

And, yes, Carrie (and Julie) are doing wonderful things for the Kingdom of God through these guides. I am so thankful to have found HOD!

Re: Reading Made Easy

I have used both RME and TRL (actually I am currently using TRL so I haven't used it all the way through). RME was good. It worked. I didn't love it though. I felt the lessons were a little long and I must admit, I didn't enjoy making index cards almost every lesson. There is a LOT to look at on eac...

John Audubon

I love how God works! We are doing Bigger this year half-speed and started John Audubon not that long ago. A couple weeks ago (about the same time we started the book), we found a cardinal nest in a bush right outside our livingroom window. Mama cardinal had laid 3 eggs which we checked everyday. Th...

Re: Nature Walks/Bird & Tree Identification

I thought of a book that I found useful! "A Pocketful of Pinecones" by Karen Andreola. It is about a homeschooling mom doing nature study set during the depression era. It is sort of a combination of a "how to" nature study book and fictional story all in one (written that way purposefully by the wo...

OT-chores

I need help! My children have chores, but something isn't working. The house is more often than not in chaos. I can't stand the mess, even worse, I can't stand how I react to the house being a mess.  I am reading a book called "Homeschooling With a Meek and Quiet Spirit" (Maxwell) and on...

Re: Nature Walks/Bird & Tree Identification

I'm not sure where you live to be more specific, but what I did was did an Amazon search for "birds of New England" and found lots of titles to choose from (not to mention reviews to help before making a purchase!). You could do a similar search for your region. My daughter and I have had so much fu...

Re: Finished Unit One of Bigger - Finally!!

Julie and Carrie, both your posts are beautiful and very encouraging. I think these might just need to be a sticky somewhere. I might even print these ones out and put them in the homeschool section of my home keepers binder. :D

Re: Happy Handwriting vs. Reason For Handwriting?

If you look on homeschool review (dot) com, they have a couple of folks who have reviewed (positively) happy handwritting. It does sound like it is letter by letter though. Not sure how many here have used it as I think most have used ARFH per Carrie's suggestion. :D I do have to say I love the Chee...

Re: Prayer Request and new baby news ...

My mom had breast cancer as well. She has hit her 10 year clean mark this year! Praise GOD! :D She was 43, so not quite as young as your friend but still young. It is always so sad to hear of any one young and with children going through cancer. Would she be open to adding some more natural stuff to...
