Re: Bigger unit 8 day 5 science

I read on a science page online that humidity does matter. We have had nonstop rain here lately... so there you go :) We will have to try again another day.

Re: Rod and Staff, really 15 min???

Today we did the entire lesson orally and it took us 20 minutes on the nose. So I suppose the writing was slowing us down a little. Not sure if I will do that every day though. I think we'll just see how each day goes and try to do as much as we can orally from now on. Thanks again for your responses.

Re: Rod and Staff, really 15 min???

All of your replies have helped so much. Thanks! I think if ew can get it down to 20min we will be good. I am the type of person who hates to go against what the curriculum says lol so I have a hard time doing any of the written orally, plus as I said it gives me time with my 2nd child. I will work ...

Re: Rod and Staff, really 15 min???

I think it may be that we are doing too much of it written. I've been having him do so much of the written assignments because it then frees me up to work with my 7yo. I've been sending him to his room to work at his desk for the written portion. So there could be some dawdling as well. ;) I think w...

Rod and Staff, really 15 min???

I was just reading through the time allotments for how long subjects in Bigger should take. Everything looked good except for english. 15 mintues, really??? It takes us 30min to an hour daily. My child is understanding everything and loves english so I know it isn't a matter of him being placed too ...

Re: s/o: Carrie's "long day" thread - how much sleep?

My 9 yr old goes to bed at 8 and lights out at 8 or 8:45 if he gets lost in a book and forgets... we then remind him :) He is up EVERY morning before 7am. Not sure why God gave me, a total non morning person, kids who are early birds. Anyways, I sometimes wonder if he gets enough because he also doe...

Re: Weekly Review: October 22-26

The last post makes me even more excited for Preparing next year :) I love when the kids beg for me to read more. Baby Island has been one of those books for us. My two olders are loving it.... sea biscuit wasn't a hit though.

Re: Bigger Extension Ben and Me replacement

Sounds like it won't work then. I put a bunch of books on hold at the library on Ben Franklin, hopefully one will work. Thanks for the responses though.

Re: Bigger Extension Ben and Me replacement

Hmm... Thanks for that, I didn't realize that.
I think I will check it out from the library and se what the reading level is like. On amazon some comments said it was an easy read???

Re: Bigger Extension Ben and Me replacement

countrymom wrote:We used "Poor Richard" by James Daughtery. It is longer than "Ben and Me", but a good history of Ben Franklin. My 7 yr old son enjoyed it.
Thanks! This is exactly what I was wanting to know. I will check it out from the library and see if it looks like one my son can read.

Re: cursive handwriting?

We did cursive last year and are doing Bigger this year. Since there isn't cursive practice in it and I didn't want my guy to forget it, he has been doing the Bible verses and science verses in cursive. I don't have him do his dictation in cursive though because I want him focused on spelling at tha...
