Re: Singapore Lingo
raindrops I love it! I am not sure that my kids could get over the injustice of having fewer donuts and actually solve the problem though. The lil' stinker loved this illustration because he always ended up with more donuts or gummis. Haha. And I always immitated sister "heeeeey he got 3 more...

Re: Singapore Lingo
So it isn't just us :-)! Ok, now I feel better :-D. An example of confusing wording for dc is "2 is 3 less than 5". This is from Essential Math book B. That is really confusing for her even though she knows how to subtract. Hahaha! Yes! That exact thing seemed confusing to DS so I said this and he ...

Re: How are Beyond and Bigger different?
Does it teach this? "the discovery of the U.S. by Columbus" It is easy enough to edit for my family since we believe this untrue. I'm just curious if Beyond teaches students that Columbus discovered the U.S. :) In Beyond, on page 2 of American Pioneers and Patriots, it mentions that the Vikings wer...

Re: Getting all choked up when reading
Oooooh yes. I had streams of tears running down my cheeks and my throat was so tight that I could barely speak... trying to read the chapter when the Pilgrims were all dieing during that first winter... and being buried on the hill, graves then covered in snow. My son was staring at me with an expre...

Re: TRL Lesson 11....Help!
You are very welcome. :) I think we might do this again for chapter 14, which has us using a "you" sound for the "u" in "full" and "pull". It sound like "puel" and "fuel" instead. LOL. DS and I just laugh and he says, "shouldn't that be "pull and full?!" LOL. So he is able to correct it in his head ...

Oooooh! We had the same problem. I wrote a post about how we very successfully dealt with it. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14247
I hope that link works.

Have you looked at the book list HOD sells? I think it is $5? I guess it is a list of really good books that Carrie likes but aren't actually used or planned in the guides. I do not have the list, but maybe someone here can explain it further.

Re: Starting HOD in January!
Wouldn't doubling up Beyond and using the All about Spelling, Saxon math and the other science make your day still last around 4 hours? How long do those 3 subjects take with those rescources? At least at first, maybe you could do Beyond at regular speed and ease into it. I would rather do school th...

Wow, Julie. I'll have to check that out. How was the language, in your opinion? Just curious since HOD mentioned there might be some bad language... I am not afraid of white-out if need be. Heh. Is it actual curse words?

Re: HOD Science
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but a really interesting book is "Glory of the Stars", by Raymond Capts... it is about how God wrote "His story" in the stars, the first Bible. And I think there are a few more books written along those lines by various authors but I haven't read them...

Yes, yes, yes! Thank you HOD, all involved.
I read a book titled "Doing business God's way" a few years ago and Heart of Dakota kept coming to mind. You said it, they truly ARE a ministry first, a business second. They do things the Kingdom Way.

Jesus teaches unit 8.3 of Beyond science
I have been reading a chapter a day out of my Bible from when I was a little girl... it is "the Picture Bible". Anyways, today was when Nicodemus meets with Jesus and Jesus is explaining what it is like to be "born again". Nicodemus doesn't understand so Jesus explains that just like you cannot see ...
