Re: MTMM for highschool

For MtMM, The Elements is not a high school level book. The Evolution book is high school level, so you could align half a credit for that if you add in the tests/worksheets (HOD only has you do some of them because of time).

Re: Sticking with HOD long term

We started with LHFHG for my oldest, so we have used it for a long time. But I am finding I need to change things for my oldest. She is now in high school, and I think she deserves some input on what classes she takes and how we do them. For WG, we did it mostly as written (with a different math, Sp...

Re: Family Learning vs Individual

I thought I would teach my three oldest together when they were young. But then #1 was a go-getting and advanced, and I felt I didn't want to hold her back. At that point, we found HOD, and she started LHFHG at 5.5 years old. I thought I would combine the next two, and it FAILED. They are very compe...

Re: Taking a break

I wouldn't say tired is HOD necessarily. But we do get burnt out with everything going on. I think we would get the same burnt out feeling with most curriculum! Only doing school four days a week helps, but if we have busy weekends, we need a break occasionally.

Re: Taking a break

We school year round so we can take breaks as needed. Some times it is a complete break. Some times it is just the 3Rs and Bible. Some times it is a time for everyone to catch up on anything they got behind on. The older guides are only 140 days, so that leaves us a lot of flexibility!

Re: World History Timeline

Maybe when the WH guide is edited, you could leave a note for students (and parents) about it? I will contact her as well.

Re: New Products Coming...

Are there any hints as to what the new products are?

I am starting to get my cart ready to order, as my girls will start their new guides in June. They will finish Unit 26 today! So it would be nice to know if there is anything new coming out I would want to get for any of my kids.

Re: What guides are you using?

I have four guides going. My oldest is on Unit 26 of WH. My second is on Unit 10 of MtMM. My third is on Unit 26 of RtR. And my youngest is on Unit 11 of Beyond! For Beyond, we are doing some books we hadn't read before with the older three, and I am enjoying the variety. I am missing time with my o...

Re: DS6 - "EVERY Day is a Fun Activity, Mom!"

My almost 7yo calls history and storytime (and everything related to them) "fun school.". He loves that part of the day!

World History Timeline

My daughter just added The Pilgrim Voyage on the Mayflower to her Book of Centuries today. We found the text on this entry incorrect: September 6 - December 21, 1620 A.D. During the time of the Reformation, the Pilgrim Separatists broke away from the Church of England with hopes to escape persecutio...

Re: CTC - Written Narrations

How is she at oral narrations? Maybe write out some of those for her, so she can see that she is capable of pulling out the important information already. Yes, writing can be harder, but it is just coming skills she already has.

Re: 5 YO Hates to Cut and Color

How is he at other fine motor skills? I first had always hated coloring. She wasn't great at other fine motor skills, but she would try to write letters, etc. And she was fine with things like mazes and connect the dots. So I realized it was just something she wasn't interested in. Now, at 15, she s...

Re: Little hearts Science & other ?s

One thing I have done with my kids is give them the option of doing the activity or narrating. That gave them some control over things while still doing a follow-up. And the rhyme we normally just read as a poem. My kids have never been huge fans of hand motions, etc, so they weren't a hit that way....

Re: Little hearts Science & other ?s

We started HOD with LHFHG with my oldest. Like you, I added things to it because it is light. And then I realized as she got older, that light is okay! HOD really picks up in Bigger, Preparing, and CtC. CtC definitely feels like school for a 9-11yo (roughly 5th grade). When my oldest got to Preparin...

Re: Library

I like to get a few "random" non-fiction books for my kids. I look and see what books they have on famous people and places. There have been seasons we have gotten books on presidents or states (great for Beyond and Bigger). There are seasons I have gotten books about particular states or people (wh...
