Re: Second day doing BLHFHG

Yeah! I remember your post back in December about trying to decide what to do, I'm so happy for you that your children are back at home and the curriculum is working so well for all of them. It's a great feeling having them all in the "nest". :D Thanks for sharing your great week!!

Re: Week in Review~1-15-09

I believe this is my first week in review! I guess my confidence is building. :D We had a great week! It started off bumpy, you can read my "frustrated with handwriting" post on the main board but I finally got myself organized. I have put our schedule on paper for the boys to see too. I have blocks...

Re: Frustrated with Handwriting!

Wouldn't you know it that today when he was writing his spelling words he didn't have trouble writing! Well, he did write his b for d but other than that he did really well. I was just sending my sil bragging on him when I received your reply Carrie. Like I told her, sometimes those attitudes creep ...

Re: Can we talk math drills?

In addition to flashcards, we are using a poster I found at the Dollar Tree. It works great, it does have the answers on there but just the repetition helps. We have "circle time" for this. We also play a math addition/subtraction Bingo I found at Dollar Tree also. When we are on a long drive dh & I...

Re: What do your kids do when they are not homeschooling?

When the boys were the same age as your's, they spent there days playing. Most of our time was spent outside. We did not go to the library that often because my 2 year old was actually twin 2 year old boys - so they were a bit much for the library but you may want to give it a try. Our local library...

Re: Frustrated with Handwriting!

Thank you Anna and Carrie. Carrie, I did *try* A Reason For Handwriting last year with him but he did not care for it but at the time I was making him complete the entire lesson, not follow Charlotte Mason's philosophy on that one. I was probably too quick to push it aside because I wanted to instil...

Frustrated with Handwriting!

I'm very frustrated with my ds right now. He's "suppose" to be in 2nd grade and his handwriting is awful! "They" say that boys do not like writing and their handwriting is not as nice as girls but that's not the problem! He struggles with the size of his letters still, spacing and how to write them....

Re: Questions about Emerging Reader & implementing

Summer... you hit the nail on the head with the visual and pictures. He is actually a rather proficient reader. But chooses to just look at the pictures and ask a ton of questions about what is this? Why did that? etc. But then isn't motivated enough to READ to get the answer. Therefore, the majori...

Re: Questions about Emerging Reader & implementing

We do side by side reading with questions at the end. My ds is usually too excited about what he's reading and has to explain to me ( ) what is happening in the story as he's reading. We are now working on trying to read the entire lesson before expounding on it. For storytime, we only r...

Thank you Sandi! I just found myself praying for them last night before I fell asleep. I was praying for peace and for comfort for Mary's mommy heart. :)

I am replying to your post just I'll see Carrie's response when it comes through. I don't know that much about this, as today is the first day I heard about the CPSIA.

Re: I am second guessing myself now!

Sheila, I'm so glad you are at peace with your decision! We ALL get side tracked in our thinking when we hear other people's opinions, I'm thankful we all have each other during those times to encourage us to follow our hearts and not our ears. Congratulations also on your pregnancy! What a tr...

Re: I am second guessing myself now!

Sheila, My heart really goes out to you, you are in a tough situation. But I would suggest you get yourself a trusted prayer warrior and you all plead your cause before our Lord. You can't get God's will from ungodly counsel. Of course the principal and people from the public school setting and pare...
