Re: Grading and motivation...
Positive Motivators 1. I'm taking a picture and it is going on the blog for you grandparents to see or mailing them the verse they copied, etc. 2. I'm hanging it up on the bulletin board for your Dad to see. (He knows to look there and always comments on items; good or bad). 3. Stickers, smiley fac...

Re: 12 yo's reading level not increasing
I feel like I've reached the same place with my daughter. I've added Vocabulary from Classic Roots to her routine hoping that a study of Greek & Latin roots will help her start better decoding those tougher words found in higher level reading. I don't know if that is the answer for you and I haven't...

Re: If DD is doing poorly w spelling, should I use dictation?
My son was struggling at the beginning, also. We started doing Spelling every day. We do the assigned activities and I add simple oral review (say, spell, say) at least once more during the day. Here's a fun free site where you can enter the spelling words and play all kinds of online games & activi...

Library books! You can find all kinds of experiment books and living science books at the library. I like Science Chef especially. It is full of kitchen recipes that also teach science concepts. In our house basically it looks like this... Library Books Nature & Magic School Bus DVD's Experiment kit...

Re: RTR notebooking pages?
I think the price would be okay. The full color notebook for CTC is going to be a wonderful keepsake. I'm sure the same will be true of RTR.

Re: RTR notebooking pages?
I sure hope so. My daughter loves the notebooking pages. Three great reasons to have them... 1. Better penmanship. My daughter works extra hard to keep those pages looking beautiful. 2. It provides accountability. No way we can skip anything that is part of the notebooking page. She would die if she...

Re: should we drop math?
How about thinking a little outside the box in regards to math. Set aside the curriculum for a while and pick up MathStart books at the library (picture books that teach math concepts in a fun living book type way) Family Math by Stenmark has tons of great math game ideas in it. M&M math, Cheerio Ma...

Re: How do YOU use the Appendix?
I put removable tabs on my TMs.
For my daughter's math (she's in CTC), I actually photocopy the Singapore schedule and she just keeps in her math book. She crosses it off as she does it and then recycles the page when finished.

Making the sling was a blast! I'm glad to see your son enjoyed it. He also did a wonderful job with his Descriptive Place. Very impressive!
I'd love to hear the boys belt out the Star Spangled Banner! I'm sure Dad must have been very proud.
Sounds like a great week. Thanks so much for sharing.
