Re: HELP! Sort Of Grammar

My son would have died with that assignment. He has mild dyslexia that shows up in spelling and he has dysgraphia. I would have had him number the sentences in the correct order and read them to me aloud. That was the skill being measured. He actually struggles with sequencing so I may have even cre...

Re: How is Evolution taught in higher grades?

It is the University of CA system that rejects Abeka, BJU, Apologia, and other sciences that have creation content. They also reject many Christian-based history courses. Their decision to not accept those courses has been upheld by the 9th circuit. CA homeschoolers find it very difficult to gain en...

Re: Coming Back

I'm not quite sure at this point. According to our history cycle, I'd put him in Resurrection to Reformation. I'd like to stick with that. My daughter is going to do the World Geography for 10th (replacing the math & science with Algebra II and Biology). She's been drooling over it ever since it cam...

Coming Back

Can I just say how much I have missed HOD. Due to my son's dyslexia, I've tried a couple of years of "doing it on my own" and I'm fed up and exhausted. I'm looking forward to coming back "home" next fall. The writing will still be a HUGE struggle for him, but he loves that HOD integrates a variety o...

Re: Dissapointed with history book...???

I felt the same way about the Eggleston books. This was easily solved by checking out library books from various perspectives. It gave us a more balanced viewpoint.

Re: Summer Reading Book Suggestions on England...

Here are a couple of our favorites besides the obvious junior versions of Robin Hood, King Arthur, Ivanhoe, etc. (books that can easily be read multiple times with increasing difficulty each time). Children of the New Forest by Marryat http://www.amazon.com/Children-New-Forest-Yesterdays-Classics/dp...

Daughter showed off CTC at our Homeschool Fair

Our home school group had their yearly home school fair this weekend. The home school fair is an opportunity for children to display history projects, book reports, science experiments, play an instrument, sing a song, give recitations, and much more. Every child gets a participation award. We had 6...

Re: Using Bigger 4 x's a week instead of 5 x's a week?

I don't know why I read that just as science. Yes, we did this. I just doubled up. For example, one day a week with science was just reading/narration. We doubled this up with a day that required a little bit more. Same with history. Geography day was always easy to combine with another of the days....

Re: History Resources for 1960-present

Here are three suggestions http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=node%3D916990&field-keywords=Ronald+Reagon+children&x=0&y=0 I'm tempted to say go with the Childhood of Famous Americans and just have her pick a few that will give her an overview of the modern time period. If you want to avoid w...

Never mind.

Each of us has to decide where to draw the line.

Re: Anyone else annoyed at the use of this type of language?

I don't know. I guess I sit the fence a bit. My kids don't know cripes means that. They've never heard it associated with Christ. No one I've every known to use the word associates it with Christ so I'm not sure it is a big deal for us. While the origin of a word doesn't change, it's meaning often d...

Re: CTC Supplies

There are quite a few times in the CTC where you are instructed to make clay. It is easy enough to do with home supplies but.... I bought a big tub of air dry clay at the craft store and I'm so glad I did. Just made life easier on busy days.

Re: Week-In Review 2-8-10 to 2-12-10

Ha, I should have taken a picture of Ryan's reenactments and tower-building. It was a crazy week. The pictures were taken after the fact this week. I pulled out the work and snapped pix. By that point, the reenactments & towers were long gone. Same with the Olympics! I should have taken pictures.
