Re: MTMM-Unit 14 Day 4

True all compounds are molecules, but when it involves 2 elements bonded together the molecule is usually referred to as a compound so to my brain if they want you to draw a picture of a molecule containing the element I just think it makes more sense to say the compound containing the element. I ju...

Re: MTMM-Unit 14 Day 4

Is it a molecule containing the element or a compound containing the element? A molecule containing the element doesn't make sense to me, but an element containing it does. For example for Calcium they could look up calcium carbonate. Radium will be tough to find something you can draw a picture of ...

Re: Bored with Reb and the Redcoats

I read aloud to my son up until this year and he is in the high school US1 guide so I do think it is good to read aloud, but since he is in the extended range for the guide he is doing it may just be that those books would seem young to him. Since he is resisting being read aloud to, maybe you could...

Re: Bored with Reb and the Redcoats

My son really enjoyed Reb and Redcoats, so I can't help you with that. I am wondering though if maybe it has more to do with the fact that your 14 year old is in the extension age range for the guide, so a few of the books may seem young to him. I am wondering if there is a reason you are reading ou...

Re: 2 Q's: testing and calculators

My son uses a different math but he started using a calculator more once he got to Algebra 1. In Algebra 2 and above many programs require a graphing calculator and it is very important they know how to use one for the ACT/SAT tests. I don't think you could get the test done in time unless you used ...

Re: What boxes in AH1 are MOST elective?

It does depend on what their post high school plans are and what if they are going to college what is the college looking for. I also don't consider Spanish an elective since every 4 year college I have ever looked at wanted at least 2 years of the same foreign language. In fact the only reason my d...

Re: 2 Q's: testing and calculators

There are tests scheduled in the high school guides. Some of them are scheduled as open book, but you could make them closed book if you wish. In certain subjects she doesn't schedule the tests, such as biology, but you could schedule them if you have an extra day to do that. Chemistry the tests are...

Re: Question about In Their Sandals writing program

Thanks for responding Carrie. What you described is what I have been thinking since writing this post. He hadn't gotten to the grammar application lesson when I wrote it and once he did he went back and added what they told him to and fixed a few other things along the way. I did help him with ideas...

Re: HOD and Standardized Tests/College

Water2wine, it is so good to see a post from you. I think about you often and wondered how you were doing. Your post is a huge encouragement. It is a testament to HOD and to you as her teacher. I agree with you that HOD really prepares them for the type of assignments they will find in college.

Question about In Their Sandals writing program

My son is using this with the AH1 guide and is finishing up his first story. The directions say that there isn't a set amount of words, number of paragraphs or length required. My son is one who isn't going to write something lengthy unless directions specifically sat to do that. His first story has...
