Re: Can we talk about horrible handwriting?

Hi, I don't have any expert advice, just experience! I have learned that fine motor skills develop so differently between kids. My oldest dd(9.5) and next dd (just 7) are great examples of that! the younger of the two was dressing Barbies before her older sister, her drawings have been so much more ...

need a chuckle?

Hello, I enjoy visiting this board and often have a cup of tea or a child with me! I have shared in the past how we are so enjoying the poetry box in Preparing and today my dd wrote a poem that gave me what I needed most lately and that was a laugh (anyone else suffering from late winter blues?) I d...

Re: How do you use more than one program?

Hi, We are using Beyond and Preparing and we jumped in to HOD last October. I switched to HOD because I was combine teaching my two oldest except for math and reading, and my dd6 at the time was not learning/retaining due to her older sisters tendency towards answering all the questions first or cor...

Re: When do you begin spelling

Hi, We sound like we are in the same boat!! I have a 7 year old and we switched everything around for her this year including her phonics program and moved to HOD(mid year). We too are using Ordinary Parent's Guide to Reading (we switched to this after 6 weeks of school)--we like it, but she is not ...

Re: Why poetry is worth the time

We, too, are having an amazing journey with Poetry. Our oldest dd is in Preparing and this is our first year in HOD guides. One aspect I have been surprised by is my dd joy in the poetry. The first week we came to writing creatively from RLS poem, I must admit I cringed inside, not about the poem, b...

Re: Cursive Confusion

Hi Florence, Oh, just to say---I am not a cursive expert, but we did use Modern Handwriting Beginning Cursive and Cursive Practice. they were two little workbooks that cost me $10. They were quick to work through. If I were you, I would start over (I feel really bad saying that--we don't need more w...

Re: Non-auditory learners?

Hi, I have a non-auditory learner and I feel for you. It has been a frustrating, but rewarding journey with our oldest dd. We noticed it way back when she was little. She couldn't seem to follow a series of directions, couldn't tell me back what I said and to be honest we still have struggles with i...

Re: Do you find it difficult to get it all done?

Dear Playschool, I love your name! Sometimes all I feel like doing is 'play school' and using HOD makes me feel like it is 'play'. --albeit with some work!!!--such as working with interrupting little ones, frustrated older ones, or enthusiasm that spills out and over into every aspect of our lives (...

Re: help with daughter

Carrie and Julie, Thank you for the encouragement and reminder! yesterday I enlisted my dc to crumple paper for me to glue to the basement walls and we had KNWC playing Christmas music and we would stop and sing and the little one would dance--it was nice to have joy in the midst of the busy day---I...

Re: help with daughter

I want to just say a big thank-you to all of you who have responded to my little question--sometimes it seems so overwhelming, and I appreciate you taking the time to encourage me! AmyB--so good to 'know' someone in real time!!! Thanks for praying! Annointedhsmom: I laughed when you shared your stor...

help with daughter

Hi all! My oldest daughter, Krystle, is 9 and in Preparing. I love it and she loves it too, but we/I am running into difficulties with her perfectionism, which has been a ongoing problem since she was tiny. I want her to relax and have fun with her projects, but if they don't turn out exactly like th...

Re: Descriptive Writing can be hard to teach...

Your son did a great job! I love to see all the great pictures! Yes! I love what PHFHG is doing for my dd!! We just started a few weeks ago and she has always loved to write and work on short stories, BUT I have had no idea to help her 'spread her wings' so to speak and she is loving writing creativ...

Re: Frustrated - schedules, 2 yr old ds (long sorry)

Hi there! I can really sympathize!!! I have a ds who just turned 4 and he can be a handful along with everyone else and a dd2 (not quite) and she is not interested in two year old toys either!. I don't have all the answers, but will share with you what we do and maybe you can find some encouragement...

DITHOR

We are using DITHOR this year for the first time! We love it and my oldest daughter asks to do it almost everyday! We just completed the Adventure genre and read Toliver's Secret. I loved the book as much as she did! when it was all said and done, Krystle wrote her own adventure story about a little...
