Re: want to return to HOD but I've created a placement probl

Yes those placements are according to the placement chart. Thanks! Maybe I just need to hear that skipping guides isn't the end of the world. I didn't use the placement guide before because I so loved keeping everyone together for the main part of the day. I should've had quads! :) You and I are in...

Re: If your child is placed correctly in their guide...

Thank you Melissa for your thoughtful and thorough reply. :) I do appreciate the help. It is interesting you mentioned combining my two middle children into CTC. My first thought in looking into coming back to HOD was putting them together into CTC. I know from past experience that doing three guide...

Re: If your child is placed correctly in their guide...

Thank you Lynn for your 1/3, 1/3, 1/3. That information is really helpful. It made me go back and evaluate their placements two years ago and the year they spent doing HOD. This in itself was helpful for understanding.

Thank you! :D

If your child is placed correctly in their guide...

If your child is placed correctly in their guide and they are managing to complete a HOD week in a week (as written) I am wondering: *How much of the guide is easy for them? *How much is challenging them? I am still praying over where to place my children for fall. I am trying to weigh out their str...

Re: Preparing versus CTC?

Nealewill wrote:Yes, I think I would place her in CTC. CtC still has helps for written narrations for the first half of the year. I think she will be fine. It may be a bit of an adjustment at first but I think she can catch on.
Thank you for the encouragement Danaele! :D

I think she would catch on too! :D

Re: Preparing versus CTC?

I have circled the placement chart and came up with CTC. Currently her written narrations are 2 - 3 sentences for science and 3 - 5 for lab write ups. She hasn't done written narrations for history since 2nd. She has done a ton of copy work and can copy paragraphs. Her dictation would be level 3 for...

Re: Preparing versus CTC?

Thank you so much Keteni for your kind encouragement. Your post on the other thread for the other mom, that I just read, is beautiful. I am glad I started this thread. The LORD is calling and leading me back to HOD. This time it will be one foot in front of the other to have the slow and steady in e...

Re: Dictation only for spelling?

Dictation is fantastic. It has helped my oldest more than I realized possible. She has mild dyslexia and her spelling improved significantly because of it. For my youngest, it is the only thing she has ever used. We love it and will stick with it. Thank you Daneale! :D Your posts have often left me...

Re: Dictation only for spelling?

Thank you Stephanie. It is great to hear how it is working for you. You bring up an interesting question I have wrestled with. What makes a good speller? I have thought over that one. Dictation I did see help my oldest the year I focused on it. My oldest has been an avid reader for years, and his sp...

Re: Preparing versus CTC?

Based on what you shared I would go Preparing. CTC was a big jump for us and one of the reasons was my son was not a strong writer (as in writing multiple sentences or putting a lot of thoughts on paper). I think Preparing will be perfect and after a year of Preparing she should be able to get the ...

Re: Dictation only for spelling?

Is anyone using the dictation without supplementing it with a spelling program?

How is it working?

Re: Preparing versus CTC?

It actually looks like she fits solidly into Preparing. Preparing is great for a 4th grader. It puts her right on target for the rest of the guides and will allow her to grow in the areas of writing and getting used to the HOD workload. Preparing also is a pretty key guide for giving dc lots of hoo...

Re: CTC or RTR?

I think I would lean towards RTR also. It sounds like he is ready for it since he can do quite a bit of writing. The biggest learning curve will be with the written narrations since he won't have all the beginning practice and instruction with it that is in CTC, but you can just slowly build him up...
