Re: Something ELSE Homeschooled Kids Don't know :)

That is so true, mamanlait... :( I am always amazed when it is ... how should I put it? A christian family and the kids rooms are covered in vampire posters and scooby do stuff and other occult things. Monster High dolls. !! The Biblical study in Beyond has been delightful. DS and I have talked abou...

Re: Something ELSE Homeschooled Kids Don't know :)

Haha, that is great. (I also don't know what Justin's fans would be called.)

Their interests/ ya'lls conversations would be totally different if they were in public school. <shudder> fashion and entertainment focused.

Thanks to HOD, my son's favorite thing is to pretend I am Squanto.

Re: number lines in kindergarten b math

We also aren't using Singapore, but here is an idea to "build up " to subtraction on the number line. Take some sort of cube (Lego, Unifix, snap, etc). Use that as your "unit" for the number line. You probably will have to draw a big one on paper to fit the size. Then build the first number. So, if...

Re: spelling Word fun- Beyond

Aww! It really doesn't take much time to do the spelling games. You're writing the words out on individual cards anyhow, I just tape them to the paper for the lift-the-flap, nothing special! It is nice because then you have your word-list taped down for keeps. I was just throwing them away before. T...

spelling Word fun- Beyond

We have been working on spelling list #1 and I have been working in these ideas for a little fun: On Day 5 we play tic-tac-toe with the 2 "target words" marked with an *. He'll happily write and re-write his word in order to play this game..! On days 1 and 4, we will either do lift the flap or "memo...

Re: Should we be finishing Beyond in an hour?

Well he IS young, but he sounds like he WANTS more. So... I think going 5 days would be good. Then when you start Bigger slow THAT one down. Maybe half speed? Until he finds his feet and reevaluate then. I suspect my daughter will be like your son. She LOVES learning! *My* son is typical boy ;) the ...

I am soooooo excited to see/ do Bigger! Hehe! I am a book LOVER so getting to order all these books is soooooooo great. <happy> and the best part is we actually USE them. LOL. Love those guides! We have lots of books but if they aren't scheduled it IS hard to remember what to read and when.

Re: Should we be finishing Beyond in an hour?

Ah... motivation. Yes, that speeds things along when there is no foot dragging. My son doesn't like doing copywork and he usually draaaaags it out. Seems like he should just get on with it and get it over with. It is the difference between 5 minutes-or 30! By the end of the guide things should be go...

We have the textbook as well. I sometimes show it to my son, too, before beginning the workbook. It only takes a few seconds/ minute. I found it for a dollar at a used curriculum sale.

Re: A year of pilgrims?

We are on unit 19 of Beyond and my son LOVES the history! Loves! Everyday he asks "how about we do history first!" He is very fond of Squanto... we even made up a little game where I am Squanto and I traveled through time and he teaches me about the modern world and reminds me of things that happene...

We did too! (((((Beyond)))))

We had so much fun with the history activity following the trail of scented cotton balls. I never would have come up with that on my own. LOL
