Re: DITHOR placement
I would place them based on reading level rather than literature study experience since DITHOR will walk them through the literature study. My dd did MTMM and DITHOR last year for 8th. She hadn’t done any literature study except for one year of DITHOR Level 2 when she was much younger. She did great...

Re: 7 YO Super Interested in Periodic Table of Elements
Thanks I'll check it out! I also found a Periodic Table of Elements puzzle and a Monopoly-esque game based on the Periodic Table where instead of properties, you buy groups of elements and you pay with the amount of protons that are in an element. Those both looked fun and interesting. Your games s...

Re: Combine 4th and 7th grader in Preparing?
HOD says Preparing extends to age 12. It sounds like your plan is coming together for you. I think with the math, science, and EIW at level for your 7th grader you would be fine. Some of my favorite HOD books are in Preparing!

Re: Math for 5th grader
I’ve used different math routes for different kids. My oldest who gets math naturally did Singapore when he was younger, and then he did Saxon 7/6 thru current Calculus. He has loved all of it because he loves math. My second didn’t take to math. He initially did Singapore, but he wasn’t learning wi...

Re: Combine 4th and 7th grader in Preparing?
One more thought: Since you’ve used the guides previously, what guides would you say the 7th and 4th place into? Have you looked at the placement chart? I can understand wanting to combine them; I’ve found HOD combines well at 1 1/2 years apart, but I wasn’t ever able to join my two 3 1/2 years apar...

Re: Combine 4th and 7th grader in Preparing?
Could the 4th do CTC, or would the writing be too much? CTC & RTR seems better to me for 7th writing and preparing for High School.
Would CTC and RTR work, or would it be too big of a stretch for the 4th?
Thoughts?

Re: How many guides can I teach at one time?
I’ve done 4 guides at once with success. I don’t think I could do more than 4, but perhaps someone has done so with success. I wouldn’t suggest Beyond, Bigger, and Preparing at the same time. They are all fairly mom intensive. Could the 7 & 8 do Beyond or Bigger together? Could the 10 & 12 do CTC to...

Re: 8th Grade Placement for Student with Delays
I think your idea of sticking with HOD long-term could be a good idea. It will take planning off your plate, and it will give you structure, goals, achievement of goals, and consistency. Does your 10 year old place in Bigger? Or, does he place in Preparing except for independence? The reason I ask i...

Re: Sneak Peek: "Visual History" set for Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory!
I’m glad my youngest is in LHFHG so I will get to do Beyond again with your new updates and additions!
Will these books be in addition to the current spines read in Beyond? Are they replacing the current read-aloud pack, or are they another read-aloud choice?
Thanks!

Re: Really loving hOD
:D I love reading about how much you are both enjoying HOD and homeschooling so much! MTMM has missions as a part of the program, but I wouldn’t say it is heavily missions focused. Instead, I would say it is a world history time-line with missions and American history woven in when they show up on t...

Re: Really loving hOD
One thing to remember about the CTC thru MTMM cycle is that it is World History. Yes, American History is woven some into the World History but the focus is World History. The straight American History is in Beyond, Bigger, US History I for 11th, and US History II for 12th. My daughter who did MTMM ...

I was reading the sneak peak thread from years ago for US History I this week to learn more about it, and I think the science part of the thread might really help you to read: https://forum.heartofdakota.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16078 I think the gift of Carrie’s science plan is that our children who...

Re: Subjects Covered
Hi! We are in a state with the same list of subjects. We have now been homeschooling for 12 years. My understanding of the list of subjects with our state law, that looks similar to MN, is that they need to be covered over the course of their education. Economics and government are usually taught in...
