Re: Roll Call 2023/2024?

It is fun to read your posts about what your kids are doing! It brings back some good memories of CTC and Beyond. :D We are re-starting school on the 14th. My youngest, dd14 with down syndrome, is starting Kindergarten this year with LHFHG. She did so well on her second time through LHTH last year t...

Re: How much chore time?

I have 3 in High School, and my youngest is special needs. So these chore routines are what my 3 oldest are currently doing; it had some similarities in the earlier years, but has increased as they age. They all do a morning routine that consists of Bible reading, bathroom chores, make their beds, g...

Re: Sensitive Topic - Is the Bible Infallible

I would very gently encourage you to read Romans chapter 1 with the thought that it could help you sort through this issue. I remember re-reading many times over Genesis chapter 1 when we were working through the young earth versus old earth issue…it helped a lot to open my eyes to God’s Word. We we...

Re: CTC Geography as Independent

Isn’t there writing for the field work as well as narrations? It has been awhile since my ds did CTC, but I remember printing out travel log pages that he would write a paragraph onto. Yes? I would think reading it would be fine for her to do on her own. In the later guides my kids have come and fou...

Re: Apologia elementary texts

Yes, the science texts have been updated. Beyond is the same! When I did LHFHG the first time years ago it had a second option for first grade science that has also been updated, but it is no longer used by HOD. It is the one with the lion on the cover - Our Father’s World by Christian Liberty Press...

Re: Apologia elementary texts

Out of curiosity, I looked at each year. She only uses Land Animals and Astronomy for elementary Apologia which was true 10 years ago so it is unchanged. The science books for Bigger thru MTMM are exactly the same as 10 years ago. The High School science books are exactly the same as when they were ...

I think I understand your question, and the answer would be no. Her science sequence is unchanged regarding the Apologia books.

Re: LHTH questions

I find Carrie’s guides work best without cutting too many things out since they are a unit study. I find I can add things to her guides if I don’t add too much or replace if I replace things evenly (for example, my ds did physics with US History I since he’d already finished chemistry - it was an ev...

Re: Grandpa’s Box

My 3 kids who I used it for as a read-aloud were around 8, 9, and 10 when I read it to them. By those ages, they knew a lot of Bible so it wasn’t new for them. However, they did end up enjoying the book overall. I used it as a read-aloud. Did it get better? I would have to say yes. It took about 7 -...

Re: LHFHG for an Active 5 YO

For my boys, it did increase concentration. I remember Carrie saying her boys did recess in the morning which would be another way to do it. Our breaks were more as they needed it. If I tried to pull them away from fully engaged play outside of school time, I couldn’t have done it. I always have sta...

Re: LHFHG for an Active 5 YO

You have been given some great suggestions! Both of my boys were very active…always running. As teens, they still have a lot of energy! When they were young, like your son, I did a lot of different things. I made sure we went outside everyday (preferably at the end of school, but sometimes it happen...

Re: Preparing specifics/ special needs

My youngest was born with Down syndrome so I’m very familiar with full-on special needs. We’ve always taught her according to her ability rather than her age or grade. At age 13 she did LHTH a second time and was able to do it fully as written. I was thrilled! This coming school year she will be doi...

Re: Preparing specifics/ special needs

I don’t know if it will help any, but I did evens or odds for Rod & Staff which cut down the time and writing. One of my sons really excelled once he could type and paste rather than write into the notebooks. Can he type? I would focus on the written narrations as a top priority for writing with R&S...

Re: DITHOR placement

It looks like your first placement for levels fits your book packs! The 5/6 pack goes with the 4/5 level DITHOR. The 3/4 pack goes with the 2/3 level DITHOR. I have one son who doesn’t enjoy reading as much so I completely understand putting your son at a level that encourages and flourishes the rea...

Re: Bigger Handwriting

But I'm not sure about his handwriting. It can be nice if he goes slow, but he still needs to work on shrinking it. He can write in cursive and likes too. Blessings, Jaime Since he likes to write in cursive, he will be more than fine. Cursive is introduced in Bigger, and he already likes it! I woul...
