Language scheduling in Creation to Christ
My daughter is going to be 5th grade this year and we're using Creation to Christ. We've been very relaxed in our language programs in the past, but this year we're going to use the Rod and Staff language as recommended in CtC. I read that we should start with level 4 because she hasn't used it befo...

[quote="water2wine There are many parts of the country where racial slurs etc are just not known. [/quote]
This is true. If we haven't faced this sort of thing, we are not familiar with the language.

Re: Super heroes - ok or bad for kids?
We all need heroes. The news is full of evil people and terrible horrible things. We need good examples. I am more concerned with letting my children know which stories are real (history, the Bible) and which are imaginary. That's what important to me. We have girls, so for us it's not super heroes,...

The box arrived today. Dd eyed it very skeptically.

Thank you for the honest accounts of kids who are reluctant learners.
This year I have to find an incentive for dd to do her work.
I have never found a consequence that she really cares about, but positive incentives sometimes work. Sometimes.

Re: Benjamin West and his Cat Grimalkin
This was the first historical book that my daughter enjoyed. She loves art, and this was a great way to introduce biography.

Re: Got our Box Today!
Well, as we were leaving our home for the library, I noticed our BOX on our front porch. We haven't had time to look at it yet though. I was so excited! My younger two children are excited to look at it to. But my oldest son frustrates me! He was just acting very "blah" about it. (sigh) I wish he w...

Re: I finally got around to putting a folder up...
Glad this is here! We're jumping into Creation to Christ this year with my 5th grader. She hasn't used HOD for several years, and in fact she's only used it as a History Reading Schedule. I'm a little scared of the language program--we've been relaxed with language and I think this is going to be a ...

Re: Anyone else wishing their summer away?
No, I enjoy the break! Not looking forward to the end of August ... and Routines ... and School... But hey, at least homeschool lets me work with my children in the morning while they are fresh and awake, instead of struggling with homework after dinner when they're tired, like all my public school ...

Re: I have a problem with the use of this word in a HOD book
Rephrasing and editing and interpreting are something you'll need to do with every curriculum. Because you are unique and you are a homeschooler and you are going to want to adapt things to fit your own family. Your background and the needs of your own family are going to influence the way you do th...
