Re: So far, this year is going sooo well!

Today dd was NOT happy about copying a section from one of the books. She does NOT like to write or copy. But she managed to do it. In the afternoon she was NOT happy about her reading assignments but when she had finished them she came to me and told me how much she likes one of the books and that ...

So far, this year is going sooo well!

This is the first year I've used Heart of Dakota as a complete curriculum with my oldest. I adapt a little (that's what homeschooling is all about for me, being able to individualize!), but I'm following the guide more than I ever have. Yesterday I was looking over the plans for today, and my dd wal...

Re: help with ctc & bigger schedule.

Every day is so different. I have to look at the activities and see what's going to need my help and what the kids do on their own --which may be different from the way it's labelled in the guide. Every kid is so different! And some activities take longer than others. So as my oldest works on things...

Re: Please share your experiences with us.

We're starting Unit 2 today so that we can take Monday off. I told dh about the poem (I was trying to picture what a pasture spring might look like) and he started singing it! I found a musical version on Itunes and downloaded it. :D I noticed gaps in dd's student notebook and I see I missed a few t...

Re: Please share your experiences with us.

Day four! M&M experiment day! Again, dd read her Bible quiet time early in the morning. And as soon as breakfast was over she asked to do her math! I have a verrrry reluctant learner. Usually school time begins with an "oh no, do we have to?" But today she asked to start, and earlier than I was quit...

Re: Questions about using CTC...

Would you mind telling me what kind of notes you put in her binder? Is it just what is in the Bible quiet time box? I love all the ideas I am getting on here... Right now I am writing the Bible quiet time in her binder, but all of her written work goes in the binder. I need to get tabs for it! I re...

Re: Questions about using CTC...

I'm only three days in, but so far every day is so different, with what projects dd needs my help with and which she doesn't. She hasn't used HOD for a couple years and some of it is just so new to her that the labels for which is individual work and which is teacher-directed are not necessarily acc...

Re: Please share your experiences with us.

Day three: another great day! I see there is more geography reading tomorrow. I think I will have the kids draw pictures of what they are hearing about. I wish I had time to go to the library and get photos of Turkey for them to look at while I read. I need a more detailed map of Turkey too. There i...

Re: Please share your experiences with us.

2nd Day: all done except for the independent reading (Dd does that in the afternoon). Good day, good attitude, and dd loved the painting project. I had her do almost everything else first, then paint, then have a break, then do math. She rushed through math to get back to the paints. She wanted to e...

Re: First day tomorrow!!

Ok, middle of the day...dd still has some independent reading to do this afternoon. So far, so good. I'm putting off dictation til next week. I just can't introduce everything at once, and the first days of dictation involved a lot of explanation about the situations described in them. Language was ...

Re: Please share your experiences with us.

Today we jumped into Creation to Christ. And we had a great day! Dd had a good attitude and so did I. I adapted a couple things. We are not going to start dictation til next week. I just can't introduce everything at once. I also chose a different poem. The first poem has a "summer is over, fall is ...

Pray for me tomorrow! We're starting CtC with a very reluctant learner. The first day of school is always so depressing for her and frustrating for me!

Re: Anyone else wishing their summer away?

Yes! But I always do. July and August are my least favorite months, and Fall is my favorite season! Temps have a lot to do with that. 107* yesterday and 108* expected today! :? I also love doing school! :D We're having our hottest weather of the year AND starting school. It doesn't seem fair! Usual...
