Re: Need Math Advice for a 5th Grader with not so great atti
Wholly agreeing about not changing due to bad attitude. I have homeschooled on and off for about 16 years, and bad attitudes do come around again when rewarded. Now, making changes because you gave something an honest try (at least a year) and it really isn't working, that's another story. I love Ju...

Re: What r u using with older high schoolers?
I'm not there yet, but perhaps you could consider for him Missions to Modern Marvels plus Extensions this year. Perhaps you can email HOD for suggestions on what else to do to "beef up" this level for an 11th grader to ensure it is high school credit-worthy for his 11th-grade year. As it is, with th...

Re: Art/History Project question
You could skip them for convenience, but the projects are about so much more than art They really tie in to the history being studied, and are really a way to further cement/reinforce learning in that subject area. You do have much to ponder under the circumstances, sorry if I'm not much help

Aw, I hope Mrs. Carrie sees this, your son is too sweet My 12 year old loves CTC so much, she doesn't want to part with any of the books-so good to have children loving their school

Re: CTC Land Animals of the Sixth Day Question
Yes, the entire book is covered. It doesn't feel rushed either-frankly, I wonder how it could be stretched out to fill a whole year...unless perhaps the writers of the book plan for a family to use it only once or twice a week. The way it is used in CTC, the child has readings from it daily (4 days ...

Individual state study is included in Missions to Modern Marvels. You study the state you live in.

Re: Sample book list: grade level=reading level? and key?
Hi-I have always used the book list and gone by grade-such as my dd is now in grade 7, so I assign her books that are from the 6/7/8 lost and are marked as grades 5-7, or 6-8, or 6+. She is a great reader with a high reading level, but for the sake of maturity I don't assign her anything higher for ...

Re: Where to start a 7th Grader?
We are loving Creation to Christ here-my dd is 12, about to turn 13 and it is working out very well for her. Just as a testimony about the resources used: we are about halfway through the guide, so I was considering selling some of the books she has finished so far for a few extra dollars-well, when...

Re: Coming Back To Homeschooling!!!
Well, your son is now in the extension range-I would perhaps start out with continuing Bigger as is, and gradually add the extensions for him once you and the kids have got a good routine going, if it seems he really needs them. And resist the urge to move too quickly through the rest of the guide, ...

Re: dictation is making me nervous...suggestions/help please
What I used to do when we started with the dictation in Bigger was to write the passage on a whiteboard (exactly as it is in the guide) for my dd to study from. I would point out punctuation and new or challenging words. When she was ready, I would erase the passage, then dictate to her from the gui...

Re: Using CTC with 2 students ?
Genesis Finding Our Roots? It is a hardcover book and it is not for writing in. You would need, besides the 2 sets of student pages, just separate DITHOR workbooks and math workbooks. Pages from Write With the Best can be photocopied. The rest of CTC is non-consumable :) For nature journaling we jus...

Re: Coming Back To Homeschooling!!!
If you feel they made no academic growth during their ps time, then perhaps it would be best to go ahead and finish Bigger before moving onto Preparing.

Re: Guides taking much longer than Carrie and Julie's times
Thanks for sharing more about your son-sounds like you taking over some of the writing isn't going to work in his case-but I still also think you could slow down a little without losing anything-even if you take a bit longer to finish Bigger, he will still be in the age range of the next guide

Re: Preparing Hearts Beginning Question
I think doing both sequential spelling and dictation would be overkill-if you want to try dictation, I'd say go for it, and give it some time-dicatation is a "slow burn", but very effective over time-it has brought great improvement in my dd's spelling over the past 2 years
