Re: Do I need notebooks for CTC Geography?

The instructions in the Geography box of the CTC guide say to print both the blank and labeled maps, and have the student label the blank map according to the assigned "Map Notes" section for that day. The first one is a map of Turkey on Unit 2 Day 2, and A Child's Geography p. 13.

Re: Mixed feelings

Florence, I have tried many adjustments to no avail :( I am glad that she is on board to homeschool through high school, though, and that her sister is doing so well with HOD. It's just that I love HOD so much, I wanted all my kiddos using it-it's easier for me, you know?

Re: Roll Call - When are you all starting?

Starting up after Labor Day, September 4th, although the public schools here start August 28. Sticking with a 4-day week, because I think that will work best for us with baby due late October/early November. 12 (almost 13) YO dd will continue CTC with extensions (we stopped at unit 18), until she is...

Re: Preparing Guide and Language Arts

Between Rod and Staff 4, DITHOR, and the Preparing Guide, there is plenty of writing and writing instruction. I don't think it would be necessary to add a writing program.

Re: Spelling Help?

Those kinds of things are actually covered in Rod and Staff grammar-those rules really apply to grammar and mechanics, like regular and irregular plural forms of words (baby-babies, knife-knives, for example) :) Studied dictation for spelling, when you follow the instructions in the appendix of the ...

Re: Singapore 2A

Are you doing all the scheduled hands-on lessons in Bigger, and repeating them several times, as many times as your child needs/wishes? Are you allowing her to use whatever manipulatives are used for the lessons to help her solve the workbook problems? Just trying to troubleshoot. It may not be any ...

Re: How does dithor work?

I see you have a unique situation on your hands, and may just have to accept a longer day because of it :? As long as your son is doing well and enjoying...For DITHOR, you may choose any grade-appropriate books that fit the genre being studied, rather than using the book packs. You may purchase a Sa...

Re: How does dithor work?

Sounds like math and grammar are going great. As Tammy said, your son should not be reading the Reading About History books or the Storytime books (such as the True Story of Noah's Ark) on his own-these are intended to be read aloud to the student by the parent/teacher, and are usually above the stu...

Re: How does dithor work?

Which books from Preparing do you have? At his age, you should have everything except the Extension package. Are you using all the recommendations from Preparing for language arts, math, and science, or are you substituting or adding anything? Are you reading the "Reading About History" books aloud ...

Re: One big binder? Individual binders?

I use individual binders, for that very reason-it would be huge with everything in it  For CTC I have one large binder with page protectors for the Student Notebooking pages, one small binder for Geography/Bible Study, for Science a sketchbook (for notebooking and lab pages) and composition no...

Mixed feelings

I have loved HOD from the start, and had to stop using it along the way due to life. I got back to it for my youngest dd Tamara, who was happy with returning to HOD and homeschool, but getting back to it with her older sister Keri was a battle from the start. She had no desire to come back home for ...
